Question Removing Tacho / rev counter 1972 911

Hi,
Hope someone can help me. The tach / rev counter in my 1972 911 isn't working. I thought it would be a quick job to check the wiring etc.. After 45 minutes, I wrestled the tacho out the dash. (someone bound them with duck tape rather than the Porsche recommend rubber)..
Now out the dash I can remove the most of the wires, but there are three that go into back through a red connector of some type? I read on one post to turn it right 45 degrees and pull. All that happened is it sounded like something fell off inside and the red connect moved forward flush with the housing. They so seem to have some sort of a spring fitting?

Any ideas, help greatly appreciated?

David

the whole thing slides out, the red area, the white around it, too, and some of the steel, just like the other bulbs you removed next to these, perhaps a very small crew driver, as a wedge can be used to get them moving.

of course, if the previous owner used duct tape to hold the gauges in, they could have used crazy glue to keep the bulbs from coming out. good luck

Thanks for the help.
I have just been out tried with a small screw driver and sure enough out it came. No idea what has fallen off inside, but that will have to wait until later in the week!
