Well, crud. What did I do now...
 

After 3 years and 8 months of mostly procrastinating, I'm putting the engine back in my 1983 SC. Needless to say, after that amount of time, there's a lot of "discovery".

And I have a part left over. It's pretty thick, 3-4mm. It seems important. It has a rib welded to one side to make it stiffer.

And it was in with my Porsche parts, which are mostly separate from my MGB parts, my Ford 8N parts and my John Deere parts. But not always. :confused:

Can anyone identify this?

I've look through both of my Wayne books and the Bentley manual, no sign of it anywhere. The only stamping on it says 1130 VE. It had some surface rust, so it was somewhat exposed. I did put a coat of fresh paint on it. I still have quite a bit to bolt back on, like the rear bumper and oil lines... might be from there? I just don't want to have to take the engine back out, once I get it installed.

Yes, AC compressor mounting bracket (actually, strut brace.)

Calling for a caption contest

Somebody please correct me, but if your model year is anything like my 86 you should clock the fan strap so the bolt won't be on top or it will interfere with the engine lid and keep it from closing all the way.
Yeah, I did that :D. Just glad I didn't force anything or I would have dented the engine lid.

I think he should be OK, my SC has the bolt dead center on top. There is a heater hose that goes up and over the fan shroud that is quite a bit taller.

It definitely would have been close if the AC condenser was still in place, but that looks to be on the shelf with the compressor.

However, I think the coil might hit the lid - it should go on the other way with the wire pointing down, and most of the body down below the clamp.

The coil is just sitting in the clamp to keep it from rolling around for now. Seems like when I put in the MSD ignition, I read that that coil needed to be installed with the cap pointing up, not down. I had it clamped to the rear engine support before I removed the engine. Still trying to decide where I'm going to mount it after the rebuild. Thanks for the tips though. You guys sure don't miss much!
