how to adjust the heat cables

Working on getting my heat working. I had to take the flapper boxes out ad lube the cables. Now I am unsure how to adjust them. Do you move the lever forward at the heat controls and then tighten the cables? I am unsure. I have autoheat but the car is all apart, so I can easily move the leave in the car, fore or aft. Just not sure the best way to adjust the cables.

With the lever down or auto heat off (no heat position) adjust the flapper so it is in the closed position. The flapper inside the box will be closed and the vanes on the outside will be open.
Once the cables are tight check that they have full travel when lever is pulled up or auto heat is full on ( flapper opens and outside vanes close).

I like to use a helper to insure after adjustment there is no binding and closes and opens naturally. Just be safe when you are under her.

Make sure you counter hold the cable thru bolt or you will snap the cable off. Ask me how I know.

that is how I did mine at first but then with the heat on, I was worried that the flappers may have closed before the arm in the autoheat reached the limit switch, so I kind of adjusted them again with the heat on.

auto heat- foot well blowers part deux.
