another RS America bites the dust

I had the misfortune of having a Volvo plow into the drivers door. I was in the process of making a "u turn". I was actualy stopped when he hit me. He told the police officer he was taling "evasave action". He received a citation for his trouble.

I am beginning to loose interest in the car. In the past 4-5 years:

I have had two people back into the car while waiting for a traffic lite to change

I also had the experience of hitting a 900 pound donkey at approx 70mph. The donkey got the ticket
Now this happened. The car is tons of fun but there is always the worry. I could not sell the car with out disclosing it's history.

The estimate is $17,000. Damage is limited to left front fender and left door and left strut

I do't know what to do; my options are part it out and take yhe money from insurance co or get it fixed and just run the @@@# out of it and not worry about what happens to i

The car has been hit four times on separate occasions and by more than one ass? Yikes!

One way to look at it is that you could never buy another for $17k.

I mashed up my 930 pretty good about 3 years ago. The cost to repair was not insignificant and was a real consideration. I was fortunate to have the resources and spousal support along with some sage advice and encouragement from fellow Pelicans.

Everyone's situation is different so I will not tell you what is best. My only thought would be to get multiple opinions and take your time (not 2-3 days) to make a decision. Cool off and then look at it without emotions to the extent you can.

A lot of us have been there.

Good luck.

i'd repair it. RSA even with accident history are pretty valuable and damn good cars. The 964 is such a good platform. Real power and that classic look. Love mine (c2).

I'd repair the car. If you sell it, you will only regret it later. But if you do choose to sell it. I am sure someone on the forum would snap it up quickly. I'd even be interested. Way your options and think about things for awhile. no need to rush to a decision.

Fix it, then start with the upgrades. No guilt now, go wild with the modifications and take it to the track.

RSA values have skyrocketed in the past few years, you would be stupid to part it out. Have it fixed and sell it, you'll make tens of thousands more..

It's rare. Fix it. Think about how most, if not all, multi million $$$ Ferrari racing cars have been mangled and put back together. They still are what they are, rare and special

Fix it. Or sell it, as is. Lots of people would buy it from you.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. I have a vehicle in the garage that has been rear ended, door dinged, keyed, etc. and it always seems it never ends with it. However, it has sentimental value and will probably always be mine. I hope you fix it up and continue to enjoy it! Got any pictures?

I really agree here on an RSA. The RSA minus the manual rack, MAYBE a sunroof less shell, seats, rear seat delete is really a C2... so on part out... well... the VIN shell I guess gets some additional value?? But this is a case where I think the sum of the parts is much greater, because "RS".

From the feed back I have gotten it would be best to repair it and then try to sell it. I had a 1987 Carrera in excellent condition which was totaled when I hit a donkey. The insurance co paid me $21,000 and let me keep the car along with the title. I parted out the car and made about $12,000 for the motor, $6,000 for the trans and approx. $11,000 for the rest. I junked the title. The total was about $60,000.

The big question is what will the car be worth when it is repaired It was in excellent condition with 51K miles on it, no dings, lowered, and I had a engine lid without a tail, cup pipe, chip, and typical additional stuff. The shop that will be doing the work has a very good reputation. The owner says that I will not be able to tell it was in a accident. We have located a new front fender, door, inside rocker and front bumpe.r
There was zero damage to any other body panels.

The No other question is. "what affect will the accident' have on the value. Would I be better off keeping for a year or so rather than selling it right away leaving the buyer woundering if he missed something..

It makes one wonder about the 1972 and 1973 Carreras out there; and what is hidden in their past.

One thing I would never do is fail to disclose what has happened to the car. Feed back would be appreciated. I will post pictures

fix it right, document it well with pictures, save in the car file. it will have some effect on value, that effect diminishes over time.

fun car, enjoy it, because another RSA with those miles is going to cost 100+

That is some rotten luck and would get old going through the repair experience multiple times with a car you love. I would say since its an RSA, fix it right through insurance--making sure it is done 100% correctly and no corners are cut by body shop. If you do sell it, I would love to hear your asking price since a wrecked RSA is the only way I could currently acquire one. However, I don't think you should sell. Fix it, enjoy it to the maximum.
