Help needed on 3.0 rocker shaft removal

Anyone out there that has removed their leaky
rocker shafts on lower exhaust area and installed the little seal on the small grove of the rocker arms in a 3.0 while engine still in the car?? If so just how do I go about it and how hard is it? According to my manuals it appears one can do it as long as the rear ones don't have the bolts turned around. Have leaky cam towers on supposedly rebuilt engine and quess I will start with this before dropping the engine and removing the cam towers and resealing them with all that work. All replies welcomed.

You will need to cut off the short end of an 8mm allen wrench to get to some of the end "nuts" but other than that it should be doable.
It is sooo easy to take the motor out that you might want to consider it.

Chris . . I considered another engine drop but before I do I wanted to see if I could do the shaft seal work with the engine installed since I had it out not too long ago and should of - could of - done it then. But if I drop it again I might as well pull the towers off and reseal them as well as making sure there is no leakage coming from the cam tension areas.

well I have the egine out and I have taken out all the raocker shafts...

I imagine it can be done with the engine in the car.

chris is right...you may need cut off 5 and 8mm allen wrench (easy with a dremel tool)

some shafts come out easily...some need some coaxing with a allen key plus a pry bar...

but I think if you are patient and can work in cramped spaces...it can be done

just be sure to support the car well while working underneath it...

let us know how it goes

82 thanks for the encouragement. I have the car up high and well supported. Even put drive-up wheel stands under rear wheels as well as standard support procedures for additional support. If I try it in the car after all considerations then I will keep ya posted.
