Oil Cooler Hose Replacement
I have an 86 in which the two short tubes (about 6 in.) in the front passenger wheel well connecting the cooler to the lines are leaky. Can you just undo these and put new tubes on without hassle? Is there pressure/gravity in the lines to cause a spill of any magnitude?
Pelican has the tubes, but I wanted to check for any difficulties before I ordered vs. taking the car in to a shop. thx, todd =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 86 cpe |

NO too difficult of a project. Just make sure you use apropriate size wrenches. Some oil will leak out, but not large amounts.

as long as the oil lines aren't hard-crusted to the cooler, the job isn't too difficult. two large adjustable end wrenches, or the ones sold precisely for the job (as in "by Pelican") can do the job.
if they are stuck, try penetrating oil a few nights before giving up. you could also carefully apply a little heat via a propane torch. be careful not to wrench TOO hard on them, and strip the nuts, or lose contact with the nut and damage your front fender with a flayling tool. chances are, if you get them loose, the new ones will need to be installed using a little elbow grease. the flexible lines can be bent, but you may have to work them a bit to get them to fall into the place the olds ones spent years in. |

Remember, if you use a torch. That's your painted fender right above those oil lines. BE CAREFUL where you point the heat.
Good Luck PB BLASTER..............is the ticket

Before you start wrenching, cover your brakes with something. I use heavy duty aluminum foil but a bag would work. You don't want oil all over your brakes.

Great input! With these thoughts/precautions in mind, I think it does sound like it is doable for me.
