Rebuild it or cannabalize?
As I collect parts for my 2.5 I'm starting to think that my plan of using my 2.2T as a source of parts may not be the best use of money or parts. Since I won't be finishing the new motor this winter I will need to run the existing motor in the car for another summer, but it is pretty low on compression, smokes (badly) at times, and is obviously down on power.
So now my thought is that I should do a stock rebuild on the T motor this winter, find another used motor that is not running and use it a source of parts for my project, and then sell the T when the 2.5 is ready.
What kind of market and price could I expect to get for the T when I am ready to sell? It seems that the 914 people are always looking for motors for 6 cylinder conversions so maybe that's where I should try to sell it. Are there any upgrades to the T that would be cost effective, ie i am guaranteed to get the additional money back out when I sell the motor? I'm thinking the obvious of replacing the pistons with S ones if required.
