Tell of your 993TT driving experience

Has any lucky bastar*d had the opportunity to drive a 993TT? If so I am interested in your experience. How does it compare to the earlier turbo cars? Has the raw feel been traded for a more separated from the road feel "like the 996" or was the magic still with the last of the aircooled machines? I may be going to Springfield Mo. this weekend to test drive one. Tell me what to expect http://www.premiercars.com/

Last summer I had the pleasure of checking out a Arena red 993 TT. I told the doctor who owned it to take good car of my next car.
Fast, more linear feeling power, and more refined overall. I think Porsche has made sure that the turbo through all it's years were true E ticket rides. I have heard of some transmission problems with the 993TT's. Something about bent gear shafts and the things wanting to pop out of gear. Total speculation on my part, with AWD and the resulting traction, the gear shafts could be the weak link. The earlier RWD cars would just light up the tires. Looking at the dealer web page, MMMMMM that 94 turbo looks delicious.

If you want to talk turbo facts call Stephen at imagine auto. He honestly loves to talk your ear off about porsche turbo stuff. And he can help you spend a small fortune when you need your boost fix upped. And you will.

I have never driven a 993TT, but a close freind of mine has - I asked him what 400 HP at the crank feels like and his response was "Violent."

You should be in for a treat.

A friend of mine owned a 993TT fro a short time and allowed me to drive it.
Yes, it has significant acceleration but a fair amount of lag too. It also handles very well.
All in all I think I prefer the good throttle response of a N/A engine.

Mine was fantastic. Love the 6-speed and it has the aircooled sound still. That car can change direction faster than anything I've ever been in-with AWD there wasn't the rear end kickout. Comfortable. Looks great. BRAKES ARE SIMPLY AMAZING. It also feels like you're taking off (in a jumbo jet or such) every time you put it down. The lag is there but it is very gradual-I like it actually. Up to about 2000rpm, it is like a reg. Carrera, then a strong "woooooooosh" and it rockets to redline. If I had the dough for it and the insurance, I would own one.

My 993TT is the best car I have ever had. I've bumped the performance to about 520hp (FVD ECU & intercooler, sportcats, Cargraphics aux. oil cooler, GT1 turbos, LW clutch &flywheel). I've beaten 550 Marenellos, 360's, GT2's and just about every other car in straightline acceleration tests conducted at racetracks. If fact, the only street car that regularly eats my lunch is a 600hp 3.8L Andial 993TT, so I don't mind!

There is no lag whatsoever. Handling is awesome thanks to an upgraded Bilstein 9-way adj. suspension.

The price is right in these cars now. They are the last of the aircooled classics and they have already made almost 3x as many 996tt's as 993tt's. Grab one if you can - they are nearly bulletproof. Good luck!

The "problem" with the 993TT transmission is the mainshafts bend can bend when abused. I think it is only a "problem" if you change the clutch to a stronger unit and then do drag race starts with the car.
