Roll cage pictures

I posted some pictures of my engine a few weeks ago and I know how we all like pictures. Here is the cage work that was done. As I have almost completed the car, I thought I would start at the beginning.

Now, that's a cage.

Seeing the seat (I assume) propped on the center tunnel makes me think, though -- has the seat ever been moved closer to center for 911-based race cars?

I was wondering the same thing about the center mounted seat. With some creative fabrication you could make a pedal cluster, the steering seems easy enough also.

The only drawback to having the seat mounted in the center is that you would sit about 4" higher in the car, raising the center of gravity

That is nice work though

Is your drivers seat in it's final location? It appears to be centered in the car. Very impressive !! Do you have any shots from the front or perhaps side?

Yea, the seat is sitting on the center console- not bolted in. Porsche never put a seat in the middle for the race cars. That comes from Franz Blam who was there from the early 70's on.
Do I have pictures? Man, I have enough pictures to fill a stadium. I'll keep posting a couple every now and then. Wait to you see the one of the shell after being completely powder coated.

Gawd I feel like an idiot. I thought you were building a center seater!!!

Whos doing the work Robinson?

What are the silver bands looking through the engine compartment? Duct tape holding the bar in place prior to welding or?

Yep, that's just duct tape.
Robinson did do some work for me, but not the cage. They have a sheet metal guy that is unreal. He cut out the rear seat area and filled it in.

Wow... Combine that with some poly or hard bushings and your dentist is going to aruba! That car will be so stiff it'll rattle your filings out just getting to the grid...

VERY nice work!

Thanks Chris. Maybe I'll wear a mouthpiece.
This is John Paul Jr's 935. Sorry it is a side view. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find an inside view. While this car was not a center seat, it was offset towards the center. But it was not built this way by the factory. The problem was the pedal configuration to the driver.
