Ducktail grill and water ingress UK
I'm am fitting a ducktail and one of ALs' grills, however living in the uk we have rain!
Can rain or even washing the car with this grill cause issues with water on the coil or HT leads. Or what do you do to stop or reduce water ingress? I have seen singer with what looks like a plexiglass glass under there grill. Any ideas or views welcome. ![]() |

I can't tell what year your car is, but I can say my '89 3.2 can survive TONS of water flowing over the engine, alternator, distributor. The coil is somewhat protected under the fender.
I will notice that when the distributor cap gets a few years old, moisture like that will cause arc'ing when left outside overnite in the rain (rare, but happens when on the road). A new distributor cap stops that. HTH, Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 428k miles |

No problems if your wires and boots are in good shape

Porsches were created in a very rainy country. If rain stopped them they would be out of business.
I have a duck with Al's grill and drive in deluges and there never has been an issue. If everything is well buttoned up you should be good. No water shield is needed.

Thanks all for the feedback, comments.
My car is a 911sc 1982. Coil is mounted on the fan. Leads and cap were all replaced last year. Here's to some road trips in 2017 👍 |

Carry a small can of WD40 in the car in case you get a wet no start condition. Simply spray down the cap and wires and it will fire right up, old timers trick.

maybe 912 tray?
Not entirely sure (I've not mounted the one I have) but I think you could always try using the 912 tray. Part #902.512.127.20 .... Got mine when I bought a used grille for the decklid and I think the seller was using it on a 911 (not using the spacer tubes as on the 912)....

Re the red car above, it is an 82 with the same coil and distributor setup. I do have a cover over all the electrics on the left side of the engine.

Your right Chris!
W-D Stands for water displacement and it took 40 try's to get the formula right. |

It shouldn't be a problem. I live at the beach so every week or two I hose down the engine and surrounding area. No missfires or not starting problems ever.
