Can't get passenger seat out! Help!

I am stuck! I removed all 4 bolts on the back from the rail, and the one on the front right, but when I try to move the seat back to get to the left front bolt it gets stuck in the forward position, moving just an inch back when I pull the lever. I checked under the seat and the lever actually does its job and releases the rail. But still the seat won't move back. I think it hits the head of the remaining screw although it shouldn't.

The car is an 86 cab, and the passenger seat is manual while the driver seat is electric.
This is keeping me from replacing my worn out and dirty carpet and recovering the seats!

I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

try sitting in the seat and moving it back with your weight. i would put the other front bolt back in to hold it in place first.

Thanks Nineball, I tried that and no go!
Actually I could not put the front bolt back on since the seat won't move back, but I put a bolt back on the right rear. I can feel the seat hit something on the left rail and getting stuck. Arghhhh!
I'll try adding the rear right bolt back on and give it a go...

Edit: No go with bolts back on in the back! It made no difference whatsoever, the seat is stuck in the front-most position and only moves back less than 1 inch when I pull the lever. It does not move at all if I don't pull the lever so I know that part works.
What could be getting in the way? Is there another manner in which the seat can be removed?

My seats out at the moment, so I'll take a look to see if I can see something obvious. But I do recall that you can pull the lever some and one rail will move...but not the other. You have to ensure that you are pulling the level all the way up to make sure both rails are disengaged.

Another thought is perhaps loose change? I know I had some seat issues a few years back...and it happened to be a few coins lodged in the mechanism.

Ok, took a quick look at my seat. The body of the car doesn't have anything in the way unless of course there might be a wire getting in the way. Even though my seat is mechanical...I still have a wire that has nothing to plug into.

Second issue I can think of is that there are a few hex bolts that hold the rails to the seat. If one was rattled loose, it would be low enough to jam the mechanism.

Thanks Kaliv! I already found a few loose pennies, but still no joy.
I flashed some light but still can't see any evident interference from anything, but I can definitely feel it.
I'll try again tomorrow after work.

The two rails move independently once they are unbolted... at least that is what I recall. My guess is that the lever arm is not fully retracting and one of the rails is not moving.

I sent you a pm before I read your thread, but STILL say the same thing. I always remove the front bolts first, then I can slide the seat far enough forward to remove the rear. Put in a rear on each side and then see if you can slide it back enough to get the front bolts out, Then the Rear!! Yes it is Frustrating, but how else could you understand the word "EASY"??

Too late, but even tho Bentley says take the rears out first (I think), you have to take the fronts out first.

Can you put a couple of the rears in and see if you can move it?

He also showed that he had to remove the front Bolts so you can remove the rear. I use a very small 10 MM Socket and bar to readh the rear bolts when the front are in because you cannot tighten the rear and have the front line up!

The rails are indepenedant of each other, and I checked and the lever arm is fully retracting. In fact I can move the seat one notch forward and backward wile pulling the lever, and the seat is locked if I don't.
I am afraid my issue is elsewhere...

I did that last night, and still no go. The seat only move one notch to the most forward position and one position backward until it hits something, most likely the bolt head or maybe the L-shaped bracket found on the front bolts.
I forgot to mention that I had to drill 2 of the back bolts as the heads stripped before I could remove them. That was why I had the seat in the forward position...

Did you get the front L brackets (2) out?

And the rear seat block?

When re-installing, replace the allen head cap screws
with the correct Porsche P/N, as these are hardened,
and shallow head, for slider clearance.

And,

Don't forget the anti-seize........

Gerry
