Engine wont start

I have not started my 70 911 with a 73 motor "T" in over 4 months because of work. However I have a new battery and when I try to start it the soleniod engages but not the starter. It to is a brandnew Hi-Torque starter, also I have an ignition problem, when you turn the key, the high pitch noise no longer is audible.
Any suggestions.

Is the battery adequately charged? Is it hooked up correctly (polarity correct; negative or black to ground)? This was originally a two battery set-up; are the other set of battery cables properly secured? Are the battery connections clean and tight? Do you hear the fuel pump run when the key is held in the start position? If not, check your fuel pump relay. Check the the 14 pin connector in the engine compartment; it's on the driver's side at the rear of the engine. Check the connections to the CD unit (the box that makes the ignition whine) under the plastic cover on the driver's side of the engine compartment. There is also a very important ground strap (it's a flat braided type strap) that connects the chassis to the transmission underneath the car on the passenger side. This cable is important to maintaining a good ground path for the starter current. Can you read an electical schematic? If so, there's one for 73's posted on this website which should be pretty much like your car. Good luck, Jim
