Searching for speakers that fit w/o modification- 80 SC with leather

I have been through several sets of speakers looking for ones that will fit the factory accommodations in my '80SC, so far without success.

For the fronts, I think the speakers have to be 5 1/4s (as that's the size of the door card hole), but not too wide a magnet in back so as to not interfere with the window motor. What fits here?

I was very surprised to find the original configuration was only one rear speaker wire connected to two 8 ohm Blaupunkt speakers wired in parallel. These are a very funky design with the magnet up front, yielding a depth of only 4 cm (~1.6 inches). I'm not sure how much more depth can be had, but in my car the leather is perforated and the speakers go under the rear parcel tray. They attach to the underside with 4 studs with a square 11cm spacing. What fits here?

Great sound would be nice, but with the compromises required to keep original appearance I'd be willing to live with with some relatively efficient speakers with decent sound.

I put 5.25" MB Quart in the doors of my '84. They fit even with the plastic rain cup in place in the doors.

Behind the door cards/under the rear tray? Any interference between the speaker and the door card / rear tray?

My, those are expensive, but beautiful.

Do your speakers mount to the door or to the door card? And what does your rain cup look like? Mine is just a piece of molded plastic that covers from the top (open at the bottom).

I also installed 5.25" MB Quart door speakers, but did the set with a separate tweeter
and crossover. The tweeter is installed right below the window switches in a hole I cut on the door card. The higher priced audio system that was available on the later G body
cars already had the same type system with the tweeter.
I really like them.

They mount to the door card. I'm using the factory molded plastic rain cups, bought new ones from our host. Bought new factory grills, too.

Here's what the door cards look like. It's pretty clear that the speakers have to mount to the door, that they can't be any bigger than stock, and they have to align with the door card holes or they will be vibrating against the door card.

We've experimented with different brackets to move the speaker toward the ground or out toward the center of the car (both to accommodate a deeper speaker), but that runs us against the door card.

Here's the back. Seems like the same deal. In the last picture you can see the studs in the form of an 11cm square welded to the underside of the parcel shelf. The foam in the top of the picture gives an idea of the available depth.

So what works here?

On my '86 targa, the factory door speakers mounted to the outside of the door card with the door card sandwiched between the speaker and the rain cup. This may provide you with some critical additional clearance.

When I upgraded my stereo system (component door speakers with tweeters mounted below the window switch and an amplifier under the passenger seat), I "downgraded" to a 2 channel system and left the rear speakers disconnected. VERY happy with this move and feel I get plenty of bass (and great imaging) from my front speakers alone. This may help make the price of the MB quart speakers being recommended bit more palatable.

i got them on ebay for 300 a pair. they are really shallow with no mounting issues. i did use an angled spacer for the front in order to bring the bottom of the speaker angled toward the driver. im using an arc audio 4 channel amp- its really compact, the harley crowd use it for motorcycles. i run a 200w kicker class d into a 10 shallow infinity sub and the thing kicks
they are mounted on the outside of the door on top of the panel. i mounted the rears on top of the parcel tray. the rear perferated holes are lame
