Anyone want to rent me their trailing arm bushing removal tool?

So you paid $100+ for that tool you used one time. How about I send you $40.00 for rental and one way shipping. I use it for one day and send it back. You recoup some of that $110 and I save a few bucks.

Hay, it never hurts to ask. :D

I torched em out.

911tracker85 02-20-2017 06:03 AM

I did not know there was such a tool.

Thanks for the link. That will help.

I was talking about the rear trailing arm tool so I didn't need to drop the rear all the way down. Elephant makes it.

Matt,

I just removed the trailing arms rubber bushings a few mins. ago using a screw driver to pry the rubbers out. Maybe you meant the control arms bushings (?).

To remove the remaining metal sleeves would require some grinding or heat. This for the rear aluminum trailing arms.

^^^ Those are the sleeves the tool pulls out. It gets them out without having to remove the entire arm. I was hoping someone else spent the $120 and I could rent it. I will just have to pull the entire arm.

matt930s 02-20-2017 07:15 AM

Tony- I did. Thanks for the reply.

Makes senses Deez. Better than using the hacksaw method I've heard others use...

Probably one of these bearing pullers could be used.
You wanted to spend about $60 for renting the tool.

Neat.

Don't have the tools but if you do buy a set, I'm interested in a "rental" program too :D
when the time comes for the upgrade !

^^^Dang, I was hoping you had it since you're the closest.

Yesterday I was looking at the tool and thought. I'll just make one. So last night I took some measurements and drew up a sketch. I came into work today and grabbed some left over cutting edge stock, traced it out and cut one. I spent a little time grinding it into final shape and flat filed the final edge to grab the bushing sleeve. I still need to drill and tap for the spreader nut. I have about and hour and ten minuets into it.

I'll final fit at home and let you know if it worked.

911tracker85 02-21-2017 01:00 PM

hmmm... after beating on it for a while, realized I have air tools.

I just used an air hammer on both of mine. only created a couple very small nicks that easily filed out. only took a couple minutes.

after pulling one trailing arm, I did the other in the car.

I'd like to rent the tools also - anyone have them around the San Jose area?
Can pay in beer or cash.

Rawknees'Turbo 02-21-2017 05:50 PM

Deez, can't you just gnaw the bushings out wiff yer toofs?!?!

Shaun @ Tru6 02-21-2017 06:25 PM

Those metal sleeves pop right out if you weld a bead inside each one.

1979-930 02-21-2017 07:41 PM

^^^ Or make a sweet tool that works.
