Finally getting my hands filthy and am finding some hoses not hooked up to anything, two in the rear of the eng compartment I believe to be the fuel vent hoses from the charcoal filter in the luggage compartment, trial and error (one doesnt reach the fan sheet metal port) has solved those, my question is where the heck does the oil filler tube vent hose go? Mine is just laying down the side of the enginge compartment. Lastly, I dont have a hose entering into the front of the aircleaner on the starboard side, is this needed? Still working the shutoff switch issue for the MFI. Car seems to run fine, just need to use the clutch to decrease RPM when letting off the throttle.
thanks Chris |

Cris, keep in mind my car is a '72S, but I think things would be similar. Oil vent hose plugs into the PORT side of your air cleaner, down low...there should be a brass filter thing that slips into the air cleaner as well...(Maybe somebody knows of an air cleaners assembly diagram that could be posted?) Anyway, on my car, it's almost a T assembly hanging out of the bottom of the air cleaner. The oil vent hose is the larger of the two hoses that plugs in here, the PORT side. I forget what the other vent hose is..I just put 'em back whenever I reinstall the air filter assemby. The hose on the starboard? I think you mean a hose designed to run into the air cleaner snout from the Starboard heat exchanger. It's purpose is to provide warmer air during engine warm up. It's often eliminated by owners, most often by those living in warm climates. I'm terrible with this computer, but somewhere on this site there should be air cleaner assembly parts diagrams? I just haven't figured out how to get to them...sorry. Hope some of this makes sense, is of some help. Best, Paul BTW, I like your use of Port & Starboard here...less confusing than left or right because the references remain the same no matter which way you are looking at the car. Suppose that's why sailors & pilots both use the terms, right?

Ruh Roh....after looking through my PET CD I am beginning to think the aircleaner set up for my car is from a T with Zenith carbs...unless it is mismarked there, I need to check against someone with a 70E...anyone who can help with pics or a drawing itd be appreciated. (Maybe when my owners manual shows up that will help)

If you are at the rear of the car looking into the bay, on the left side of the airbox at the back (far) side, I have a braided hose that bends over to where the oil fill nozzle is.
On the front (near), there is a 1 1/4" paper flex hose that bends its way back to the oil tank. This is for a T with carbs. |

![]() I have one paper hose going from a tube on the right engine bay beam to the backside of the air cleaner. This hose provides preheated air to the intake and is most often left of on cars in warmer climates. There are two braided hoses venting the crankcase. One goes from the crankcase to the oiltank. The other one goes from the oiltank (on the oil filler neck) to the frontside of the aircleaner. The fuel venting hose goes on a small pipe on the bottom of the aircleaner. ------------------ Peter '70 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Peterfrans (edited 10-21-2001).] |

Peter's pic was great! And a D'OH! to myself. My '72, the air intake snout is on starboard...on earlier cars it's port side. Peter, thanks! Hope our F-18 pilot is following this. Noted another difference..no metal pieces in my '72 upper stacks as in your '70.

Peter, agree, great pic, thanks for the effort. My compartment looks pretty much the same, without the air cleaner. On mine, the snout hangs to starboard which seems correct since the hole in the compartment to connect it to is over there. My oil vent (from the filler neck) is about 2.5 ft in lengtha nd lays at the back, will need to pullout the air cleaner and look around, but I didnt see any large fittings at the back portion of the crankcase. sounds as if it resides behind the injection pump? The other problem Id thought Id solved was two hoses coming from the port forward portion of the engine bay, likely from the fuel vent system? So now I am as perplexed as wever...good thing I dont have to fix my airplane..

I posted some more pics on my website: www.peterstey.com as kind of a first attempt (may load slow). This seems to be harder then fiddling with the MFI
