recaro seats ... are these worth recovering
I have a set of recaro sport seats that I'm considering recovering. While I realize they are not the OE "sports seats" are they of any value and are they worth recovering?

Derek,
I just had a set like this but with higher bolsters recovered locally. Quality was not the best but I do not have a show car and the cost was $150. I would always try to save them rather than junking or not using them. Joe

If you decide to sell em, let me know! Seems the OE sports seats are going a bit high for my tastes....

I'm not that big a guy and have had similar seats in my Mitsubishis. They are really helpful in keeping me from flying around in the car. If you do not refinish what would you want for them?
Regards, Scott

Wow! Those are very cool. They look a lot like the OE sport seats, what's different?
Either way they'd look great in an early car. I've seen a lot of recovered seats that don't look right so if you do it, find a good shop. Even though these aren't "OE" I still think they would be valuable to someone looking to do a "period correct" interior.

Derek,
If you decide not to keep, I'd like to throw my name into the hat concerning purchasing. Thanks

Those ARE factory sport seats, they're just labelled Recaro.

Greg, That's too funny. I kept looking at those seats and reading the post. I didn't get it because they looked like sport seats to me. I couldn't figure out what I was missing. I thought maybe I missed something because of the angle of the shot.
Anyway, great find Derek. The mounting brackets are wrong but you should be able to source up the correct parts possibly from a standard early seat. How much did you pay? Wait don't tell me. I don't wanna know.

Seats
I'm going to add an opinion I already pm'd to Derek.
They are aftermarket Recaro's perhaps sold by the dealership, but more likely sold by a Recaro dealer/import parts seller like "Valley Core". These seats were sold in this configuration later than 67/68 by these aftermarket "dealers". Advertising from the early 70's clearly shows these seats with these brackets on them. They would be "correct" without headrests in a 67....correct with flat bottom "D" headrests in a 68.... And would look just fine in any other early 911...and only a really good judge at a concours would catch the bottom bracket "difference" between these seats and the 69 to 73 brackets. A black 66' 912 at the Boise Porsche Parade this summer was judged first in class, and judges/Peter Porsche's "choice"....it had incorrect seats in the car...it had the later 69 to 73 seats. Final note that the 73 brackets are visually the same as 69 to 72, but have a double locker for DOT safety standards. my 02. Eric |

Thanks for all the information and I must tell you I am pleasantly surprised.
The seats came with the car but I was never sure as to thier value / origin / year, etc... Because they had the recarro badge mounted on them I thought they may be quite common and of little, or lesser, value than the OE sports... I know they looked similiar, but I've never seen the real thing in person. Guess I'll keep em ![]() Thanks again.
