IAC from China/Germany?
Hola Pelicans,
I keep seeing these idle control valves on ebay for about 60 - vs the Bosch ones that are like... 400-700. Seems to me like a fairly simple part and a 60 price point is almost a no-brainer - what are the chances it will fry your DME? Has anyone tried these? My IAC bench tests OK, but I get the feeling it isn't working optimally all the time. 60 bucks makes a great way to quickly test it and not care about the money. Cheers.

I don't know anything about the IAC model, but there are 2 coils/servo solenoids in the ICV in series. At the common point (the center connector pin) to either outer pin, you should read 20 ohms or so. Across the outer pins, you should read the total (40 ohms).
The DME provides +12V to the center pin, and alternates switching the each coil by providing a (Pulse width modulated / PWM) ground by switching a dedicated transistor (open collector) to each side, hence the vibration you can feel. If one of the ICV coils short, you could take out one of the 2 DME drive transistors, but they are replaceable with some basic soldering skill. That is the only risk/failure mode I am aware of. Others may chime in.

Sorry, ICV - getting the term confused with a similar part in my truck.

Oh no prob (I actually thought that was a brand)
BTW, I don't know the most typical failure mode, I think most ICVs just open up. Then you don't get good idle control of course, but this alone doesn't harm the DME like a short (rare) might.

M, don't do it, I contacted the China ones to ask them to give me the OHMS on the three poles. They replied, " this product will not work for you" LOL.
