sometimes...a stock 2.7S motor is a good thing
I usually build these 2.7s into configurations that offer much higher performance, but recently one of the local Porsche guys brought me a rebuilt stock (with SC cams though) 2.7S engine to test/tune on the test stand. It was rebuilt a few years back and it really is a sweet motor. You forget sometimes how well a CIS engine can run, if everything is working well. After a bit of tuning it ran great and has excellent leak down results too.
His intention was to verify that all was well and sell it to support other projects.......and it sold in one day. Another customer visited the shop and bought it on the spot. Here's a video of it running on the test stand........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAJ1GhAv1kA

Sounds great. I was thinking about mild mods to my 2.7 like the SC Cams. What's your methodology for tuning it? Specifically for how you adjust the fuel mixture. I was thinking about getting an AEM gauge and adjusting based on those readouts.

Duane, yes, pretty straight-forward tuning on this one. Timing, Dwell and A/F adjustment/setting using an Innovate LM-1.
regards, al

Hi Al,
Do you have some preferred dwell, timing and afr settings for a stock 2.7, or is each one unique? Thanks

So are the SC cams a direct drop-in?
I had an SC that I upgraded to Web's 20/21 grind w/stock CIS and it was a great motor.

My 2.7 was put together with "E" cams. Between 3200 RPM and 6000 it is a whole lot of fun! Plus it does 26 MPG on the freeway (if I stay out of it) with 7:31 R&P. I just purchased an 8:31 trans for long distance trips so we'll see how that does....

If anyone wants an SC grind cam for a 2.7 running CIS, I have one that I was going to use before my rebuild went WAY deeper than I was hoping. Supposedly really wakes up a stock piston CIS 2.7. Nice work getting a stock looking 2.7 running well Al (thumbs-up)
