Alternator Cone Deflector

I'm having my alternator rebuilt and I find out that I do not have the Cone Deflector that goes on the front (towards the front of the car) of the alternator. I'm trying to decide whether I need one. What is the function of the cone? Better cooling? Somewhere along the line someone has taken it off my car. Do the Great Minds of Pelican think I should get another cone deflector or would the car be fine without it.

If I should get one......does anyone have an extra for a 1974 2.7?

Thank you,
Chris

If it was put there from the factory I would put it back. I have had one in my hands and it sure is a weird looking thing and I don't know exactly what it does flow wise for effect. They are available used on the Samba and evilbay I am sure.

I remember reading somewhere that the fins not the cone direct air to cylinders the factory determined were not getting enough air. My buddy's Carrera has one that was busted up. I think he bought the new one from Pelican.

I did a want to buy for one a week or two back and had multiple offers of used ones. ended up finding one locally, but try a WTB add. since they are not visible seems silly to require a new pieces as I saw it.

Yep, they are available new, and it's a very bad decision to run without one (Bruce explained their function, above).

Sounds like a good idea.
