'79 Cassette deck speaker wiring--mono vs. stereo
I'm putting in another Continental deck using a new DIN wiring harness which has leads for stereo front and rear, so, 8 leads going into the back of the Continental.
The Blaupunkt we're removing has only two connections on the back of the deck, labelled L and R. It's got two rear dial controls, but I don't remember what they do. Not sure what model this deck is. ![]() The wiring in the car (its looks very very stock) is set up this way: Two speakers in back, wired in series with a single pair of wires under the dash terminating in a plug that goes into the back of the Blaupunkt. Like this: ![]() Two speakers in front (in the doors) each with their own pair of wires that go into a coupler that reduces down to two wires and plug that goes into the back of the Blaupunkt. Like this: ![]() I've got two female DIN-type plugs here I'm going to solder to the DIN harness so I don't have to mess with the factory wiring in the car. Trouble is, I'm not sure what to hook up. It looks like the Blaupunkt is a stereo unit (L+R inputs) but the factory wired up the speakers so the fronts and rears are separate channels hooked up to stereo jacks on the Blaupunkt. So, stereo, but only if you're sitting in the seat sideways! ![]() Appreciate some advice from the experts. ![]() |

for the new radio installation which has 4 speaker inputs ( 8 wires)
front left +/- front right +/- rear left +/- rear right +/- you will have to follow the wires back to the coupler and do away with them separate them so you have 4 pairs as in your photo you can see the front speaker are tied in together separate them . then you will have front left and right separation aka. stereo then you have to follow the other lead back to the fader dial to get the rear wiring separate them . then you will have rear left and right separation ***or if you do not want to disturb all you original wiring then you next option that will take a few hours is to run new speaker wire to all 4 locations and while you are at it put in some nice speakers so you can get the most out of your upgrade. enjoy |
