Water comming in the interior
When I take a left turn in the rain (1979 911), some water is dripping in the interior through the right side footwell vent. I figured it must be this one:
![]() What could be the reason? Is the drain pipe possible blocked? Is it this one? ![]() I checked the windshield, because I thought it was comming from there, but the frame and rubber are OK. When taking a turn to the right, no water comes in through the left side. Thanks! |

The way I check a windshield gasket is to sprinkle talcum powder on the gasket(outside)
Then get inside with compressed air and go around with it shooting air at gasket To see if the talc blows away. It shouldn't if working. But your drain may also be clogged. Compressed air for this too. Also check your sunroof drains are clear with compressed air. Lastly, why are you driving your Porsche in the rain ?;-)

I think you figured it out--some sort of blockage in the drain allowing water to remain in the bottom of the blower housing. You'll notice that the low point of the housing is not far from the duct leading to the right foot well. Any water in that low point would easily slosh into the right side duct in a left turn.

Thanks for the pointers guys.
I checked the drain valve and used compress air, but this one is free. I removed the windshield last year, and replaced the rubber. The frame itself had some rust (treated), but the problem remains. @ fixer: 1-0... no discussion possible ;-) |

If the drain is clear, then take a look closely at the area around the duct. In your photos, I can see what appears to be the track of water moving down the sheet metal near the duct. That sheet metal tilts down from under the cowl so if water is entering from somewhere under the cowl, it could be leaking down and entering the seam around the duct. Perhaps it's the gasket that's between the opening of the blower inlet and the cowl that's letting water enter.
BTW, I would test the flow of the drain by pouring water into the grille from the outside and noting how quickly the water exits the drain tube and how rapidly it flows. Blowing compressed air into the tube may dislodge a bit of debris that will quickly be washed back into the drain opening once water enters the air box. Unless you open the box to inspect the bottom, there is still a possibility that something is clogging the opening or, at least, slowing the outflow of water.

Sunroof drains are the most often overlooked maintenance items. I use a length of weed wackier line to periodically ream out the drains. There are 4 in the sunroof bay. If any of these are clogged the water will make you crazy. Just cleared my wife's Subaru left front drain, 8 year old car.

The car has no sunroof. I will try pooring in some water and see if it overflows.
