82 911SC Guage lights not working but they function properly
So just got my car back and the lights are not illuminating on the gauges. The headlights work both high and low. The turn signal indicators work as do the blue light in the center of the gauge for high beams. Also the check battery light or alt light works. So its seems its just the lights on the sides that illuminate the #s and info. We added Xenon HID lamps. I also switched out the tach and clock to OEM (car had a turbo tach on a non turbo car and the clock was a custom fuel/air gauge).
Fuses are good gauges all work properly. I'm thinking headlight switch dimmer went bad? Also the bright light/turn signal switch was stuck on H-Beam but I got it to click back today to normal low beam setting. It also had the J west relay already in the car when I bought the car. All gauge lights worked and had been converted to LED.They were nice and bright. I know that's allot of potentials but I just find it strange that just the instrument dials wont light on all of the dials, not just a specific one. Any help would be great. |
Were the gauge lamps fused at some time? Could be a blown fuse.
You can move the inst lights off the dimmer circuit at the light switch, if the dimmer is shot. Search for the labeled light switch photo in the forum. Could also be as simple as the blue/black wire lighting harness came unplugged where it connects to the main dash harness behind the gauges. (They all come together to one common single wire connector) |
When you turn your lights on do your heating and ventilation panels still light up?

There is the knob that does the bright and dim on the gauge lights. Has this gone whacky.

How about fog light switch, defroster switch, or hazards switch? Do you still have any of those? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
they do light up

Ok. So I think that rules out the light switch. Those items are powered from the same 58a pin. I think timmy2 may be right. All the lights come to a connection in the dash before they go to the light switch. Maybe it disconnected. Pull out the gauges you say you replaced and see if all the connections are made to the back of the gauge. Then see if you can find that group connection to see if it's connected.
