Front Shock Question
Hello ,
I am wondering if, when I change the front shocks on my 86 911 from BOGE to Bilstein, does the big bump stop from the BOGE shock go back on the Bilstein? The reason I ask is because of the very tight fit. I have a feeling that yes it does but thought I would ask first. Also, the little rubber washer, O-ring, that came with the Bilsteins, where in the order does that go. I wish I could find a pic of these. Thanks All!! |

Just to clarify...you are saying you have Boge front struts with original inserts and you want to replace the inserts with the Bilsteins that are designed to go into the Boge struts. If so, none of the old insert parts transfer over. Remove them, clean up all the oil that spills (and sop it out of the insert), and drop the Bilstein insert in dry. Tighten the gland nut and slide the cap on. I don't recall an O-ring coming with mine, but there are a several shoulders on the top shaft, so I'd put it where it fits. It may be designed to fit where the cap seats to prevent rattling.

The small o rings are for packing purposes. You may add them to your parts drawer for ...something. The big accordion bump stop is not needed as the Bilsteins have an internal bump stop.
