Engine question

Question.. how can I tell if my engine is a 79 are 80s engine. Distributor # is pgfu6. someone change the case. there's no numbers there. some other parts reads 79 but the distributor got me confused bit. ??? What other way I can tell what yr it is

Post the engine type number here and I can tell you what you have.

You'll find it stamped on the case next to where the right cam oil line attaches to the case and it looks like this: 930/xx with those two digits being the key ones.

that's the whole problem. no numbers on that case. someone change that piece.

Hi ,my bad i did not read your post silly me..if you can see 1979-80 are the same..picture of your engine would be nice.i guess someone in past change the engine case and did not get number from factory.There is post i have seen recently about this..you just want to know or why ?

yes.. the reason I really want to know is the heads. big port are little. but looks like. the only way to find out is to open it up. it has a 80s distributor # pgfu6 with 2 vacuum lines on it. but what really confused me was some parts has 79 on it. the car is a 79. but I guess the engine is 80 with small port.

look at the bottom of the heads.
Generally, if there is air injection or plugs for the air injection it's 78/79
No plugs or no holes for air injectors 80/83 small port
Remove the panel on either side of the fan and look for a casting date on the heads will also help
Realize that next year production starts in July

I'm back.. yes it has the air injection plugs. so looks like it's a 79. but I'm still wondering why it has a 80s distributor # pgfu6 with 2 vacuum lines. a different cam are something.
