Engine 901/14 emission control still installed?
My 1968 2.0 911 (US delivery) still has its original 901/14 engine #3280722 which was equipped with an additional emission control system to meet US regulations. I've heard recently that many owners got rid of this additional system, especially in those cars that were reimported to Europe (like mine in 2003).
How can I tell whether or not the system has been removed? Thanks Peter

Yours has been removed. Left side chain cover not original. Left camshaft not original. Rear engine tin not original. Air cleaner not original.
If still present you would have a pulley mounted on the rear of the left cam, driving a little compressor (smog pump) mounted off the left rear corner of the engine, and metal air injection pipes running under the engine to the heads. Plus associated valves/filter/solenoid over to the left of the carburetor. I think maybe I still see the solenoid bracket attached to your left carburetor. |
