Rothsport ITB 3.2 new build

This is our most recent build for a customer. It is a 3.2 with 964 cams, unleaded premium pump fuel, custom 964 resonance plenum, stock cylinder heads, B&B headers with heat, our custom shortened 997 muffler, tailpipes will be configured to exit cars bodywork, Motec M84 dual lambda, coil on plug with external ignitors. A duplicate intake is being painted the same color as the upper valve covers.
269 hp with a long flat torque curve. Should be fun to drive.

Yowza. What lead to the decision of the 997 muffler?

blockhed 04-08-2017 02:44 PM

Why not a 991 muffler?

robcf 04-08-2017 03:29 PM

Dyno graph?

Fast Mike 04-08-2017 03:32 PM

I dig it. Excellent work.

Assuming the t-piece for the air filter and the one below with the resonance flap also fit a 993 plastic intake?

If so, am I able to buy these parts individually from you?

This is the only high quality muffler we could find that packaged well behind the engine....(we will be using the factory support clamps for the in car install). This muffler also makes good power on the dyno for the 3.2 and 3.5 engines we have made them for and fits behind the bodywork, even on 73 and earlier cars. It has nice sport muffler tone and has no drone, so suited for a street driver.

The 991 muffler is similar, but uses 3 pipes since it has the vacuum operated valve for noise or quiet mode.

robcf 04-08-2017 04:43 PM

Whats the width of the muffler? By shortened do you mean the entry to the muffler?

Although there has been a reasonable increase in hp and torque, im sure with the ITB this engine is rather snappy.

Why did the owner choose not to increase the displacement?

kenikh 04-08-2017 04:44 PM

That motor wants 993 Super Sport cams.

The 993 SS cam is a great choice for a larger engine, however in the 3.2, one gives up low-end torque, something counter-intuitive with that displacement & stock gears :)

The client is always right, but I know what I like. I have them in my high comp 3L SC and loooooove the top end shove.

Is it just the lighting or is the upper valve over on the right side a different colour than the left?

What would the HP & torque estimate be for a 3.4 liter version?

Thx

The headers look gorgeous... Any chance of a better photo?

Some of our EFI parts are only available within an assembly. You can check with Jeff, as he makes those decisions.

Here are a few more shots of the headers.

The width of the muffler main case is 24" after our customized shortening.

We built a 3.4 with different cams and exhaust, same comp ratio and cylinder heads that made 310 hp @ 6500 compared to this engine 270 @ 6100.

The 3.4 torque 232 ft lbs @ 4100
3.2 torque 210 ft lbs @ 4100

The upper range of torque 3.4=258 ft lb @ 6300
3.2=222 ft lb @ 6300

I went the 997 muffler route also. it's pretty tidy and was able to be modded to work with my SSI. That said, the SSI's im using may be too small for a 7500 rpm 3.0.
