have question about headers
are the headers that connect to a 3.2 have different connection shapes?
I looked at my car and it looks like both sides are the diamond shape... I don't see a square connection. Can someone verify for me???? I bought a new RSR exhaust and one of the headers is the rounded diamond shape, and the other headers have a square shape. ![]()

I think your headers are designed to fit 911 / 964 and 993. I am pretty sure 993 has right side flanges rotated. Meaning you will use only 2 of the 4 holes in flange, a guy with a 993 would use the other 2

So you're saying that my right side are the wrong headers and are designed for a 993 and not a 911?

I don't think they are wrong - more like they designed a single part to fit a range of cars from 1976 to 1998. Maybe give them a call to confirm. They show the same setup for 911, 964, 993 on their website - I am assuming they are fabspeed

That is actually kind of clever. One part fits both flange types, both the early cars and the 993s would use two holes, just not the same two.

They should bolt to your car - These pictures illustrate the differences in flanges and why they made these headers this way. I am guessing that they are 1.75 inches in diameter.
3.2 exhaust flange; ![]() 3.6 964 These are 993 headers modified to fit a 964, notice that one side of the mounting flange has been reversed. ![]() 3.6 - 993; ![]() |

Thanks all.
So I'm trying to understand... You're saying the headers will still fit with the square design that is similar to the 993s? Or You're saying that I will need to cut out/file down the corners of the mounting points that do not correspond to my 3.2?? Another question.... do I need exhaust gaskets to attach the headers to my engine??

Headers should be sized for the engine, one size does not fit all. You also cannot use a conventional 911 muffler as the header outlets are in the wrong location. B&B did the same thing, you have to buy their mufflers or fab up something custom.

Correct, the header flanges are designed to be used for several applications.

Dumb question. So 993s have right and left side heads?

Yes, the 993 uses different heads on the left and right sides.
Is anyone making a muffler that fits an early car (911SC) fitted with flipped-flange 993 heat exchangers (other than The Crab) ?

993 HEs can be used if you re-clock the flanges on one side. I bought them cheap on my bud's recommendation. Nice to have heat and a defroster.

993 headers are now expensive. They have gone up in price significantly.

PM me if you want pics of my 993 HE and muff set up. Single 4 inch outlet with a sport cat and spiral muffler. Nice grumble, not obnoxious, nor does it resonate. A local to me at the time speed and muff shop. Reasonable price.

Check Ebay.
I see a set recently sold for $431 US. Not sure if the transaction was complete. Keep in mind that the others are not auctions. They are priced at $1300+ |

So what is the benefit of the 993 headers? Are the the 964 headers ant better than g50 headers?
