1971 911t

Hi everyone, my wife and I bought our first 911 today! It's a '71t hardtop coupe. I'm picking up the original engine sometime soon, but I've got a complete engine (71t as well) I'm tinkering around with to use in the car for the time being. She is gonna need a lot of work, but surprisingly isn't in that bad of condition the previous owner (owner #2 I believe) removed the engine in '89 (he suspected water got into the motor and tore it down, I've got reassembly to do in the near future...) and the car has sat in the garage ever since. It's been preserved beautifully, only minimal surface rust, yet it does need the front suspension pan replaced. Well, I'll keep everyone updated with the progress we make on her and I'm sure I'll be on here asking LOTS of questions, (what is this/where does this go, etc)

Welcome to the 'T' club. Good times (and expensive times, and mystifying and frustrating times, etc.) ahead. This forum and its archives can see you through almost anything you will encounter.

Looking forward to the pictures.

Mike

Welcome to Pelican and to 911T ownership! You will find much joy in bringing your 911 back to life. This might help

Congratulations and welcome!
I am assuming you have the Zenith Carbs, may need to be rebuilt before starting just to be safe.
Also I'd check over a lot of the rubber bits as they can dry out and cause issues when waking up a sleeping car (as me how I know)
Hurry up before the nice weather comes

How did you run across it?

I actually ran across it by posting a "wanted" ad on Craigslist. I believe the original color is green. I'm going to order the COA. I plan on making this my build thread. I hope you guys stick along for the ride, I'm gonna need a lot of advice/ideas/parts so stay tuned in for updates!

I've been reading along. Glad you could save that car! That's the great thing about the desert, NO RUST!

Yes, I have the zenith carbs. I'm working on getting the spare complete engine that it came with running. So far we can't get it to turn over by hand yet so we are going to put some oil down in the cylinders and let it sit for a few days. My p-car mentor says he sees a lot of carbon (I hadn't looked) and suspects maybe rings went bad.. Hopefully not, but we will see.

Brakes!!
Don't try to go unless you know you can stop.
At a minimum, new rubber brake lines and probably caliper rebuilds. Maybe even a new/rebuilt master cylinder.
Then mess with suspension, then engine.
Getting engine running first is too tempting to drive.
Good luck and have fun.

I agree! Safety first! Right now I'm just sorting out all that's in the car.. Trying to figure out what to tackle first.. Found a box FULL of nuts/bolts/washers so there is SOME assembly required.. Should be fun but right now it's in the low to mid 20s and the wind is gusting around 40 mph so no p-car fun for me right now.. I regret not buying a house with a garage. Maybe this is grounds to convince the wife to buy another house

Notice the camper shell on my truck, I plan on living in that when the P-car causes me to go broke lol. All jokes aside, this is going to be fun
