Better Radio Delete Solution?
I removed my radio from my SC, and installed (after a lot of careful trimming) a radio delete panel. I don't think that is best solution to finishing off the dash. Anyone have a good way to make a cleaner dash without a complete dash removal and redo? I'm leaving the air vent and other controls, just eliminating the radio.

Actually, my radio is still there. I just switch out the removable faceplate.

Well, what other options are there other than capping the hole with a plate, or resurfacing the dash?
Rennline makes an aluminum dash panel. Theee are tons of cool variations of delete panels like rally stopwatches, but I think you're kinda left with one of the two. |
TRE Motorsports has a little panel you can buy for a couple bucks. Our host might sell it too.

It appears the Rennline dash panel is one piece all the way across, clearly for a stripped race car, so you lose the glove box. I hoped they would have made a "street" oriented piece that preserved the glove box and had a cutout for the ventilation controls. I guess I could get that piece and start cutting it up to get what I want.
The little plastic panel that just fits in the radio space is not a good match or fit. IMO it ends up not looking very good. I hoped someone might post some other solutions. |
I made my own delete panel cut to the size I wanted. Just thin gauge steel painted aluminum and clear coated (my dash has aluminum trim). It's not perfect but it's clean and simple.

I put a 1 din pocket in this location for now. Works well.

Looking for one which is a good fit and match. |
Saabs in the 80’s had a single din pocket that would do well for you, better yet, same period, Ford Taurus (uggh) had a single din pop-out storage drawer and cup holder (if that’s your thing)....I know if you search Ford Taurus din cup holder on ebay you’ll find a variety....if you like a cup of coffee or a canned beverage, it might fit your needs pretty well.

Honestly I just grabbed a generic one from the junk yard when I was looking for a head to rebuild on my M3. Any will work as long as you have the cage that surrounds the radio, so really it’s your preference. They have some with doors on the bay that look ok for what they are. |
