smaller diameter threads on battery terminal bolt?

My '84 Carrera has battery terminal bolts that should be replaced (they're bent, rusting and rigged funky from the PO), but with the small diameter wire eyelets that connect to the positive battery terminal, all of the standard terminal bolts I've come across locally are too thick in diameter to go through the eyelets. Is this just a use a hexhead hardware bolt situation as I am not finding a designed bolt for this??
