Mating my engine to transmission--missing fasteners?
I'm about to mate up my rebuild '83 SC 3.0 with my 915 tranny. I was really meticulous about bagging and tagging, but my bag of parts for this only has two M10 nuts in it. No washers. I've got the barrel nut already holding the starter on, but that doesn't have anything to do with the engine. I've read a bunch and am getting mixed messages about whether these are just grade 10 M10 nuts, or the same as the head stud barrel nuts. And what goes below the nut? Flat washer? Lock washer? Are they special washers, or can I simply use some good quality M10 washers?
Here's what the studs on the back of my engine look like: ![]() |

Two barrel nuts at the top studs, three if you include the starter one. Two regular m10 hex nuts, 15mm socket size for the bottom two studs. Wave washers all around.

I'll bet you will find the fasteners stored with your starter.

Did you have it mounted on a engine stand?
