Cool Alan Reed wheel polishing

I just want to pass on some info. concerning what a great company this is. I learned about Alan Reed from this site and droped off my wheels off yesterday and they are great. I called ahead off time (4 hours before I showed up)and made a appointment for the same day. I pulled in and they removed my wheels and gave me loaner wheels for the week. Not the best looking wheels but it saves on having to keep the car on blocks for a week. It took less than 20 minutes. Most of this time was conversing with Al and Diane his wife. The people in the back job are only three deep. Two guys that do the dirty work of polishibg and grinding and one gal that knew more about tires, rims and balancing tires then I care to know. She is the one that guides you in and puts on the rack to remove the wheels. They take great care in ensuring that your vehicle is taking care of as well as your wheels. This is a family owned business since 1978 and back everything they do. There are no forms to fill out concerning borrowing their wheels and tires which is hard to believe in this day and age. They have numerous wheels on display to make your choice on what you want your wheels to look like. They do custom colors and different textures as per your requests. All colors are powder coated done by Al. I am having my fake Fuchs done to the original look and when they get finished they say you will not be able to tell the difference between the real thing and the Fakes. The cost I think is a bargain of $250 which includes all polishing, painting, mounting, balancing and loaner wheels for the week. They ship wheels all over the U.S.. Sorry to say they are not hooked up to the web but I will guarantee if you send them your wheels you will not be disapponted. I saw a lot of their work and look forward to posting my wheels next week!!
They are located in Ca. right off the 91 and the 57. You can contact them at 714-632-3907.

I've had three sets of wheels done by Al. I've been happy with his work every time.

I guess it says something that I live within walking distance of Wheel Enhancement, and a long hour's drive from Al Reed's -- and have never even been tempted to go to Wheel Enhancement (they do great work, I'm told, but charge you a pretty penny for it).

Al is the Man! Nice group of folks (he and Diane). She painted my center caps and they look perfect. Coincedently, I dropped off a bent wheel from my F150 4x on Monday. Did you check out the "smoked" powder coated Fuch in his office, truly unique finish...High quality workmanship, personable, a true class act...

Absolutely the best

Al has done two sets for me. I can't say enough. They are beautiful and I always get compliments on my wheels. The price is great and the service is outstanding - Al and Diane are great people and always take enough time on the phone to explain and provide details.

There are lots of shops out there that do nice work, but Al is head and shoulders above them all. He is simply the best. And, as a bonus, he and Diane are delightful. I'm about to have him do a set of 16x8s for my 84 (anyone need a recently polished, painted and powdercoated pair of 16x6s?).

You won't be sorry when you get the wheels back. They'll look great!

Todd: People ship Al wheels from all over the country. If you don't want to wait until your next visit to Orange County, call him and he'll give you details on how they should be shipped, insurance, etc. I've got a set headed to him right now.

Al and Diane are good people and they run a great shop. They still know how important customer service is and will do everything they can to make you a satisfied customer.

For many of you locals that have small scratches on your wheels that have always bugged you, it is worth it to take them in and have them polished out. You would be surprised how reasonable the charge would be and you would have the perfect wheels you want.

(Al is my hero, his desk is the only one I know that is messier than mine, and knows where everything is!! )_

They're great. He even tried to talk me out of rechroming my rims several times. I wouldn't listen. But even after he couldn't, he still send the wheels back several times to make sure the nickel[?] plating was done right--a man who definitely takes pride in his work.
I'd like to trade my 7s and 8s chromed fuchs for RUF reps. Any takers?

JKeen,
Thanks for this post. Scottb told me about this on another thread and I just saw this new thread. Thanks for including the phone number. I'll be calling Al right after I finish this note.

I'm a novice when it comes to owning a Porsche, but the board and all the replies are helping me to gain valuable knowledge quickly.

Thanks everyone, Fitz

The only problem is for us on the East Coast - where to have it done but someone as good as Al?

Does anyone know of an east coast [NYC] wheel polishing outfit? All of the posted wheels look fantastic. I just know the shipping would be pretty high to ca.

I did some approximations on the UPS web site for shipping from New York to Anaheim. It looks like about $66 for all four wheels, insured. So, the extra cost would be about $132 for the round-trip. It's not cheap, but I'm guessing that even with the shipping charges, Al's work will be better than anything you'll find elsewhere, and it will still be less expensive. Last time I was there he told me people ship him wheels from all over the country. I'm sure the reason for that is that he's the best. If it were me, I'd spend the extra bucks and ship them across country.

Don't forget FEDEX Ground. They usually beat UPS for shipping rates.

Jurgen is right...it looks like FedEx ground would be about $50 each way. Even better!
