E brake delete

In the search for eternal enlightenment im thinking of deleteing the whole ebrake setup. I have done some major weight saving on my quest to 2000 lbs. and this should shave off another 7-10 lbs(estimated) I live in florida so everything is pretty flat and i think leaving it in gear would be fine. I could chock the tires if i had to. Has anyone else done this or is this just a dumb idea.

For daily drivers in PA anyway, we can't get around the state inspection requirement.
FL doesn't have that, do they?
Personally I wouldn't but if she's a racer, I guess could see it, but keep the parts for when you sell it.

Yeah no state inspections here and car would be far from passing anyways. Not worried about resale car will stay in the family.

Check out the link below - although it's for the e-brake adjustment, the process should be similar in disassembly.

E-brake remove

We did this when we went to Coil over springs . . . also did rear wheel bearing R/R . . . not difficult but I don't remember if I removed the hub first or not . . .

Regards,

Lol, this is one mod I won't be doing. My Ebrake saved my life at the track after I had boiled mine, was going about 80mph in a long straight away going down hill. The trees where one 100 yards in front of me.

exactly- over the years I have seen multiple people use theirs in a bad situation.
remember, emergency brake, not parking brake.

Yup, losing those 7 pounds just could make your car almost fast as a Jetta 2.0 sport wagon with a Labrador retriever in the back.

Thanks not asking how to remove them(they are already off). Just seeing the pros and cons of not having them. You guys made some good points. I guess i have never had to use the e brake in an emergency situation so didnt think about that.

Yeah I had to use mine once when I ran over a thing on the freeway and it ripped off the master cylinder because I had the bottom plate off the car because ...weight savings.

Anyway have you thought about a line lock for an ebrake? I think they are pretty easy to add in. Wont help in an emergency if the hydraulics are compromised.

Actually, it's just a parking brake.
