Motor smoking heavy

Gentlemen I have a freshly rebuilt 2.7 motor. Only 1200 miles since rebuild. Very Reputable builder. Car sits for 6 months a year while I chase the sunshine. Lately on start up she smokes a good bit. Seems to be getting much worse. A good bit of oil is coming out of the hole in bottom of muffler. Any ideas? Thanks Tom

If my 2.7 has been sitting, it could be used for mosquito abatement, but then clears out and doesn't burn excessive oil. I just assume it was due to the oil slowly working it's way into the cumbustion chamber as the car sits as mine is also stored for 5 months. If driven regularly, it doesn't smoke near as much when starting.

Drive it more and harder. Get it good and hot, 1/2 hour or more then let it sit with it idling for a minute. check your oil level at the dipstick, if it's over halfway between the marks it will use up that oil quickly.

I have a built 2.7 in my 914-6 clone which has 300 miles on it. Because I have many other cars, it doesn't see a lot of use and there are times when it can sit for a month or 45 days without being started. It has NEVER smoked, ever.

Who did the build? My initial guess would be ring orientation on the pistons. If they were installed with ring gaps down, they would make a very convenient leakage path for oil, which would burn in the first few minutes of startup.

Really important to pay attention to that when building a flat 6 motor.
