The Grey Ghost gets a MASSIVE DIY interior upgrade!

This post is a bit late, but I thought you guys might appreciate the work I did to prepare my car for Luftgekuhlt.

Because of an incident, I had to repaint my right rear flare. I also fixed some cracked paint on the edge of my door, some dents in my cowl from when my hood flew up, and a couple dents in my hood itself. They also did some fantastic work aligning my flare and bumper.

For years, the outside of the car looked great, but the interior never matched. Because I have been doing long road rallies with TRE, I wanted to match the interior to the exterior of the car. Thus began one of the more ambitious projects I've done to date.

In the span of 2 weeks, I completely rebuilt, from scratch, my interior. That included:

- bringing back a seemingly unrestorable dashboard that was completely wrecked. (See my thread: hideous dashboard restoration)

- sourced, hand cut, and attached binding to my full red German square weave carpet set

- recovered my door cards including punching holes for a fully stealth stereo system.

- new dash face, knobs, etc

- new headliner

- new seats from BF Torino

- new windshield, front and rear seals, quarter window seals.

- installed fully stealth stereo system powered by an aptX Bluetooth amp and a hidden sub.

- new battery including a new fabricated holder downer. (That's a technical term)

- painting the dashboard, repairing, grinding, and painting the floor pan.

- all hardware and fasteners replaced with the proper bits.

- all surfaces painted or reconditioned

Here was my master list, then I'll jump into the pictures. This will span a few posts I'm sure!

First a couple of quick shots on the car:

Love your choices in texture and color. The car is a stunner in real life. That dash rescue is one of my favorite threads of this year.

After 12 years of driving, racing, road rallies, my floor was in really rough shape. Also, my pedal box was getting rusty:

After lots of wire wheel grinding, POR 15, and more satin paint, it's ready for another 10 years:

A couple of custom tricks including using a penny to mask a grounding spot:

My drivers side foot board had become wet and de laminated, so I reglued it with wood glue and clamped it overnight in my vice. the other minor spots i used powerful hand clamps until it was relaminated

After some sanding, a fresh coat of paint and a waterproofing clear coat does the trick:

While I was fixing the floor, the bracket to secure the passenger footboard had been sealed with paint and POR15. I ground, sanded, painted, and fitted with new stainless hardware

Have grinder, will travel.

Carpet starting to go in. Did a refresh and paint of my 915 shifter housing "while I'm in there..."

HUGE tip from Rod Emory on installing German square weave: soak it in water with a spray bottle.

Glue, water soak, drain, glue carpet, glue car, install.

My DME was spaghetti, and I also had to figure out how to mount my stealthy amp and subwoofer, so I took some 1/4" plywood and wrapped it in houndstooth to match my seats.

Oh...and here are the seats! $1300 shipped from Germany for the pair. Incredible craftsmanship. It's nice to see someone NOT gouging the Porsche community.

Here's the DME cleanup:

I got some of the matching cloth tape:

Dme and stereo install. Every wire was heat shrinked, zip tied, and carefully routed:
