This can't be good...
well as my project proceeds forward at a snails pace because of all these problems popping up...
This is the tubing of the CIS system...I don't even know what it does but I am assuming it is not supposed to have this gaping gash in it... I am assuming 20 years of contact has worn this part through... any one have one of these lying around... shown are pics of the wear and the part of the shroud that there was contact with ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just had a look at my motor (which is still out of the car), and that pipe should not be rubbing on anything. Check for broken/missing support brackets. It appears yours was rubbing on the oil cooler air shroud.
If you can't find a replacement pipe, you could repair this with a little metal patch and some silver solder.

Patch it with a rubber hose, cut so it slides over then radiator clamp it, but you really should replace or send it to a aluminum welder to have repaired, but you know there is some killer glue that body shopes are glueing metal panels on with, that may be an idea an aluminum patch, Kevin

Could this part be replaced with a couple of rubber hoses and a vent to air?? I was thinking it would make it a little easier to get in there and work on stuff?

crikey, that's an important air line. that gap would have made the car run and idle poorly with high HC. find a good one, or weld in a patch. this is a fairly common problem, but not easy to find due to the location.

if you can get 1/2" clearance once it is mounted in place, that will do it. Be careful bending it around to accomplish this- you don't want to misalign the connections or break the replacement!
btw- saw a sample panel painted with that early yellow /orange at Kevin's. Awesome choice if you go with it |

MJ:
Cut a piece of breather or fuel hose with an inner diameter large enough to fit around the pipe. Slice the hose lengthwise and put it around the pipe at the point of prior contact like hot water pipe insulation. That should do the trick for future preservation.

As soon as I saw the pictures, the first thing that came to mind was JB weld. What a perfect opportunity to try it out. It would cure to a nice grey color to match the aluminum.
