Radar detector

Just wondering if anyone has a clever mount/power routing for their radar detector.

I'm using a V1 and was just about to run the flat cable today (so far have just been using the coil straight from the windshield to the lighter socket) but ruined the cable so I'm rethinking it.

I really don't like a couple things:

1. routing the flat cable between the headliner down the A pillar under the dash edge seems kludged to me, but it looks OK when done well

2. Frankly I hate the detector in my face all the time. One of the reasons I like the 911 is the expansive view (I don't have my rear mirror mounted). At the very least I'd prefer to detector to sit close on on the dash but I know the manufacturers recommend high mounting. Anyone have any experience otherwise?

I am wondering if there any clever alternatives.

No ultimate solution with my V1 either but this is what I did.
1. Used the hard wire kit rather than the lighter attachment. Tapped into an ignition switched wire for the disconnected rear window defroster (red with white stripe). Ran the flat wire under the dash up the side of the glove box and up the inside of the passenger A pillar.
2. The detector lives on the passenger visor and does not restrict my vision or get in my face. When the auditory alert sounds, then I check out which arrow is illuminated.

Not a great solution but it works and the detector switches off and on with the ignition.

I use Escort Redline and the direct wire (DW) Escort Live remote module. I ran a Cat3 wire down the passenger A-pillar to make my own Escort cable. The remote module is mounted under the dash.

Check out a company called BlendMount. When I replaced my windshield I used a rear view mirror with HomeLink buttons so I could ditch the garage door opener. The BlendMount attaches to the rear view mirror and the radar detector connects to it. They have Valentine and Escort mounts.

I hardwired mine in to a accessory wire (on when engine is running)and had a permanent mount on the windshield.
The V1 sits right above the mirror out of the way but with great exposure to road.

+1 Waze and Escort Max here. Keep the Waze app open, with the radar detector running and talking to me in the background.

My Escort is hardwired via their flat wire and mounted to a Escort windshield sticky mount right above the mirror.

I do not hardwire radar detectors, as it is known that hardwired units are a burglars' magnet. I have a small flat RJ11 flat cable and position the V1 low over the dash. When I leave the car I stash the V1 and the small cable in a hidden location.

What do you mean? Flat RJ11 line (black) is available everywhere. Cut it to size and crimp an RJ11 connector at either end.

Do you mean just two conductor cable? I don't believe I've ever been it for sale anywhere. The four conductor stuff is already pretty small and easy to hide.

No I meant 4 conductor. I've bought super slim cable in years past but now that rj11 has so little use it's becoming harder to find.

Escort 9500iX
Used a common mirror mount.
Hard wired to the light.
No problem with visibility or hitting the mute button.
You can yank it down quickly when you find you were not quick enough!

Can you elaborate on the light hard wire?

Many of the radar detectors have available aftermarket mounts and 'hardwire' kits.
Since I'm not using the cig adapter cord that came with my unit, I simply
tapped off the interior light over the mirror, rather easy to do. And this model
detector shuts off automatically after so many minutes of non activity so I don't have
to worry about battery drain. If I get a chance I'll take a pic of the how I wired it to the light, again, easy stuff.
