1987 911 brake pedal

I like to rev match when I down shift. Two months ago I got a 1987 911 and am in the processes of sorting her out. With the brake pedal depressed all the way I still cannot reach the accelerator pedal. Is there an adjustment that can be made? Should I up grade the pedal box? Opinions and advice please?

Change your technique. As far as I know, there isn't a lot of adjustability in either the brake or clutch pedal - and I have never had a problem with a heel and toe in G50 cars. The only other alternative is to go with a fat gas pedal kit.

remove the rubber pedal covers
buy a used gas pedal and attach it on top of the existing one
put a washer under the right side of the gas pedal to tilt it toward the brake
done

You can adjust the brake pedal but you will lose travel. There will be a time that you wish you had more travel

There is plenty of adjustment possible on the brake pedal. Pull the floorboard and you will see the brake shaft (that connects to the booster) has an adjustment. Loosen the lock nut and adjust away. You will be able to move the pedal position quite a bit

Not as drastic as it seams. Drives on the street no problem. Heel and toe is still a slight stretch with the mods. No issues what so ever. I adjusted the brake pedal before. Sucks when you're going 120 MPH into a 30 MPH turn and you wish you had another 1/4" of travel.

There's an adjustable rod behind the accelerator pedal. It has a ball on the end that snaps into the back of the pedal. Pull pedal forward to pop it off, adjust, snap back in, and you're done. Super easy.

Same situation as you.
I plan on buying the Rennline adjustable pedal kit. That way I can practice my heel-toe technique more.

Do this for a lot less and see if it works for you, 1/8 aircraft ply , screws and rubber covering.
Moving it closer with a spacer and tilting in addition should get you where you want.
Adjusting the brake pedal is a bad idea, you'll loose pedal travel and feel.

I made a cover for my gas pedal that makes it wider and screwed it to the pedal with spacers to bring it 1/2" closer. In the end it matches the Rennline floorboard pretty good. This plus a little brake pedal adjustment means toe and heel is PERFECTLY simple.

It's so easy to use I blip the throttle on virtually EVERY downshift.

A real beefy clutch stop like in Georges picture above I also find very helpful - you want to be able to mash the clutch and know for sure when it's fully disengaged.

A device like this sure helps

There is a vertical rod connecting the brake pedal up to the master cylinder that can be adjusted plus the accelerator and be adjusted. I wouldn't go nuts on them though.

I'd be interested in seeing your technique as I have never seen a car that I couldn't heel-toe in.
Most people that I've run across that have issues with heel-toe are trying to press the brake with the center of their foot. To be truly adaptable you need to be pressing it with the ball of your foot under the big toe. Plenty of great drivers don't do it this way and it isn't "wrong" but it limits versatility.

- Very important! - Working on changing a reflexive skill like braking can be dangerous. You are using you conscious mind to alter something that you always do unconsciously. This makes for mistakes and braking mistakes can become really really bad. Parking lots, empty roads and no threshold breaking for a while, is the order of the day.

We made a few different pedal that adjust and have either 15 degree (standard) or10 degree angles.

Yeah I am thinking of doing the very same thing. Just went on line and saw the 4 pedal set. If you do this could you email me at Nextjato@aol.com and tell me what you think? Did it work?

Thanks

James
