Finally getting started on the 70e. Need input.

Pretty solid cali car I picked up from a bud here in Memphis. Been sitting a few yrs but very solid and complete 70e except for engine. Wiring harness untouched, good glass, brakes still work, 15x7x8 real fuchs. The more I'm getting into it the better it gets. Taken care of by someone, and I hear it was Mike at Memphis Motor Werks, who brought the car from Ca to Memphis yrs ago. Dash is in great shape, all the problem rust area are not there, altho there is some rust to fix. Has SC flares done right which I intend to keep, as such, this will not be an original build. Original color..signal orange..and I just cant do it. I always wanted a black longhood but this silver sure looks nice. I'm leaning toward period correct hot rod. Stay tuned.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1496092068.JPG

The E's are great cars...the flares look fine and silver or black will look great.

Do you know the original engine #? I have a 70e motor w/ triple webers and a 901 that came with it...

Nice project! But are you sure the original is orange? Looks more like yellow to me

Yep.
And: I'd go 4 yellow!
Silver is for leasing-/business cars ;-)

Nice. Any motor thoughts?

Give a funky color such as yellow or orange time to simmer. Those really look cool on an older car. My car is supposed to be Sahara Beige but its is currently light ivory from a PO. Funky is expected on the longhood cars.

But for goodness sakes get rid of those gauge rings. Yikes

Definetly a candidate for a nice hot rod. Being an E means little unless you are going all original and will be running MFI. Same thing for the trans. Now is the time to dump that mickey mouse original clutch.

I really like the silver. I guess if your plans are to eventually sell, silver may not be the most popular color.

Underneath all that yellow is signal orange. If I didnt have an "orange car" already I would go that rt. Cant have two orange cars in the garage. I figured that since It will not have the original engine or trans, I might as well mix it up a little. More tear down tonight when I get off work.
Matt, the gauge rings will be gone!! Hollywood speedo has done gages for me before,
and will do these in a period correct dial.. I have budgeted 40g for this build,,with all work to be done by me in my shop.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1496182012.JPG

Very interesting the oil lines through the rockers for the front cooler.

Are you keeping it that way?

don gilbert 06-03-2017 02:25 PM

They are acutally outside the rockers..inlet on the pass. side and return runs down the drivers side.

I have been busy with work, but got all little time to get something done. More tear down, almost a bare tub. I guess there never is such a thing as rust free. A few bad spots. Battery area is toast, as is lower rear apron area all the way into the footwell area. A little fabricating and welding in order. Other than that, pretty solid. On the last pic you can see the original signal orange. Lucky for me the car has never been wrecked, everything measure right up. Upgraded my welder today, Lincoln 140. Still need to get shielding gas. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1502922468.JPG
