Yes I believe it was originally guards red. Maybe not with the chrome trim.

By the way what do you think about the chrome trim on the windshield for a cabriolet?

Check the driver's door plate for the color code.

Guard's is a color I have always preferred with the black anodized trim. It's not so much a cab question as a color question for me.

Thanks Dave. I'm just curious what was going through previous owner's mind. Was he thinking, "No one will know it's really a '79, but think it's a '92" or did he know Porsche connoisseurs could tell?

99.9% of the public would have been fooled, and that's what mattered to the PO.

We can laugh but 997 lighting kits for 996s are selling. I'm sure someone is working on a 991 kit.

If you are so concerned about weight, you could go with fiberglass pieces.

And yes, fiberglass is the light thing, but since you keep calling out weights... just sayin’

i was scammed... er, misled by the paint and body person i was working with.. long story short, the body shop did a poor job (in my opinion) looking back there were many clues for me to not work with that particular shop. their shop has subsequently closed down due to other issues (insurance claim fraud) just a caveat to anyone.. look at outcomes and not just claims or pictures. there should be a law against body shops that specialize in both collision repair and "restoration"
