I bought a set of Cibie/Marchal hoodlights on ebay. I am trying to figure out if I have all of the pieces required to install them. I think I am missing mounting plates. They came with the housing, lens, innards and the bolt inserts. From my research on this list I see sets with black plates at the base. Do these plates go inside the hood or do they rest on top of the hood? Are there any rubber gaskets or grommets? or does the assembly attach directly to the top of the hood with the mounting plate attached to the underside of the hood?
Thanks for any photos, instruction or advice! Andrew Conti

did you make the backing plates? or is this a model of cibie specific to hood mounting? have not seen cibie here in phx in years. hella has pretty much taken over here with very large distribution and retailers. how much and how many relays involved? 1 per light, 1 relay per 2 lights? are they each switched? or on 1 switch? do you have diagram of wiring? thanks really interested in doing this!

Damon I left a message at your shop.
Thanks to all for the detailed photos. I am undecided which mounting location would look better on my SC. On the hood or on the front finder slightly inboard of the headlights. I am leaning towards fender mounting but I have no idea what might be involved in mounting them on the fenders. I assume the bumper comes off and allows access to the undersides of the fenders? Does anyone have a picture or a good description of what the rubber gasket that goes between the body and the lamp housing looks like? Sorry for being the Man of 1000 Questions! Andrew

More pics from "woody's" car embedded within...one of MANY links to this topic on a search ( key words rally lights, hood-lights, hood mounted lights, Cibie, rally lights, etc, etc...)
Cibie hood-mounted lights Forget Hellas, KC's etc..these ALL mount using a post, not a flattened bottom, and therefore also require a separate hole for the wire...which normally goes through the flat base of the originals.... - Wil

Does anyone have these lights mounted on the front fenders of a short hood? With underside photos?
Also --- What does the rubber gasket that goes between the lamphousing and the hood look like? Diameter? Thickness? Thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]()

hey thanks started doing a looky see on web. aardvark intl. talked to gunther. name of lamp "oscar.porsche did actually use oscars OEM. mounting plate not supplied.............you make your own. stated mounting to crossmember best mt. point. if not backing plate must be fabbed. cost of oscar from gunther $125 each. super oscar too big he said. 90 % of all his sales of these are porsche's.

jtkkz:
The detailing of your wiring is commendable.... but a question... is that a power distribution panel fabbed and located on the edge of the trunk lid? If so, are these "hot" areas exposed or covered? A small shunt can make these short-to-ground in a hurry. charleskieffner ...your a bit hard to follow ( language style)...but Oscars and Super Oscars are post mount and are not the style of light that these are trying to be. No doubt, somewhere along the line...Porsche used Oscars...maybe for some rallyes.... but the size/mounting is wrong. Like I said...where do you plumb the wires with a post mount..and how do you keep a big heavy light stable on a sheet metal hood with a post mount ? - Wil here are some links I collected..there are more.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=201289&highlight=Oscar where do I get some "bug-eye" driving lights? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=196687&perpage=20&highlight=oscar&pagenumber=2

wil just going by gunthers sales. you are correct on having to drill(YIKES) another hole! one is bad enough! was almost thinking about buying another hood from somewhere and keep my original. the backing plate is a simple fab job. was really wondering how these are wired up. 2 to a switch, 1 each on a switch, hooked to hi beams(that would be the best, only one motion on or off) my use would be only lonely highway stretches here in southwest .

Look at Early_S_Man post here...for pics on Oscars and Super Oscars on a hood...you can clearly see the stabilizer rods on the backside -->

Hi Will It is exposed, but all wires are covered with plastic covering, but I did went ahead and covered it all up completely for safety issues. ![]() |
