Changing oiltank swimmer gasket when installed?

I need to change the gasket of the swimmer up on my oiltank.
Yes, its finally startet to leak :-(

As it is cork, I fear debrit of the old gasket to drop in the tank.
Unfortunately I just did an oilchange.

Will I get along anyway working carefully?
Or must I rather drain the oil nonetheless and remove the oiltank?

Did so much on the car, but there is still some firsttimers left....

I changed the oil level sensor a couple of weeks ago. I just jacked up on side of the car. [1] and that was enough to keep it from leaking when I removed the sender.

[1] I jacked up the rear of the car under the motor, put a jack stand under the right rear torsion bar, and then lowered the car so the right side was up in the air.

^^^^. I just changed my leaky gasket during the winter. Jack it up, pull the rear wheel, and carefully remove the sender after disconnecting the wires. You will have to fish the sender out of the tank, though. Absolutely no need to drain oil, and if you clean ahead of time and take it easy, nothing will fall in the tank. If you want to get more advanced, DRAGO here had a great write-up not long ago about refurbishing the sender.

Good luck.

Hi Flojo..when installing the new or repaired oil level sending unit make sure that you align the cork gasket on the unit (holes )not on the tank .This way is much easier to install them in the same time.
Make sure you have those little washers under the nuts.Make it tight but not too tight so you do not crash the cork.

OK. I just need to change the gasket.
the level sending unit is fine, won't touch it.

Remember you will have to take the sending unit out in order to only change the gasket...

that is understood.

but: how do I get the gasket over all parts of the nunit do get backsided to the coverplate?

do I have to tare the unit apart as in the tutorial? I'm confused.

look very easy...gasket will slide over the oil sending unit only one way when it`s fit.
Last picture is when the holes are not lined up.

that little cut on the cork should face this side of the oil level sending unit.
