Oil pressure gauge on a '74
I have a stock '74 911. Today the oil pressure gauge started behaving funny. With the engine warm (190 degrees), at 3k RPM the gauge reads 60, with a very slight oscillation. Between 3k and 4k, the needle instead of rising steadily and smoothly it bounces back and forth in the range between 60 and 100, with fast oscillations. When I slow down to idle, the needle drops all the way to the bottom of the scale.
Can it be that the issue is just the gauge, or is there likely to be a problem with the oil pump?

My 74 also has 60psi at 3K. 20psi at hot idle. Are you using cam oil line restrictors?
Gauges are sort of a rough measurement. Might want to confirm oscillations with a mechanical gauge.

I don't think I'm using restrictors - sorry I am completely ignorant on this stuff. What I can say though is that until today the needle moved smoothly and nicely.

I run like 60psi at 3k. 20 at hot idle. I have restrictors. I does fluctuate quite a bit. Only when it's super high or super low do I worry.
