Fan Strap holes/lightening

I was looking at this home job. Original part with punched holes. Similar to the one Renn sells. The Rennline is stainless. Is the OEM one strong enough? I will be doing DE with this engine. The strap is 48mm wide. Hoes are 27.5mm diameter. Is there a diff between the strenght of stainless vs steel?

You ever considered taking a large dump before driving? You could realize a 3 lb weight savings easy. Of course it wouldn't look as cool.

Carry on.

Interestingly, the earlier strap with two bolts weighs the same, without holes, as the later strap, with but one bolt, with holes.

Moral - get the older strap despite two bolts, and put holes in it. Fortunately, these are not stainless, because if they were you'd have a heck of a time cutting the holes.

Thanks Walt. In this case it's about the looks for me. I just didn't want to cause a problem weakening the strap.

There is no kinetic or dynamic stress on the strap once it is installed. All it does is hold the fan assembly tight on the lower locating pin.
However in the event of a rear end 'incident' you will run the risk of the whole assembly becoming unattached and careening into your engine lid or rear firewall depending of the severity.

FWIW, I took it a step further and connected every other hole in the Rennline strap by just making them into longer slots.

So,... imagine how much weight I am saving by further lightening the strap, AND, going #2 before my rung group gets called
