rebuild pictures, Super Sunday

While the rest of the country was watching the Bucs thrash the Raiders, we assembled my case today. Wanted to have a Pelican gathering for this, but had to keep changing the schedule due to various hang-ups, then had to move operations due to loss of former work space. I still plan a party for any and all L.A. Pelicanheads soon, maybe engine install. Here are some photos:
That's my case all cleaned up w/ new bearings, ready for innerds.

newly polished crank w/ new rod bearings installed.

Had invaluable help today from Tyson Schmidt, also Mike Marshall reading us a section from Wayne's new book over the phone on latest Loctite app. recommendations, (he was working and had it w/ him in company car), , it went smooth as butter:

Here is a shot of case surfaces mated, this is the correct amount of sealer, also very evenly applied, thanks to Tyson's expertise:

installing crank seal:

Tyson using special Porsche tool, "broken wire toothbrush handle", to install seal:

The ultimate special tool is someone with "Porsche hands" like T.S., the finished result:

Denis...your time today was very productive...more than we who rooted for the Raiders can say!

The Loctite really stands out in that picture. It must catch the light. It looks like it's 10 times thicker than it is.

And damn my arms look hairy from that angle!!

Paul, Amen to that, but it was not as random an occurance as it might seem. We had a well-planned and executed conspiracy to lure him here and keep him here. Jack definitely contributed, and now we just dangle as many beautiful women and race tracks in front of him as is neccesary to keep him under the ether.

And honestly, we're making sure Tyson's powers are used for good, not evil.

Looks great, Denis. I'm bummed that I couldn't be there.

I completely understand, Jack, but don't worry. Our best Porscheing days are ahead.

I really went banana-balls getting that case clean and prepped. At least I can have a concours motor. My goal, besides the usual fixes and performance upgrades, (964 cams, SSIs, power clutch w/ alum. PP), is a cool running motor that doesn't leak anything, not oil or exhaust or compression or vacuum.

The rebuilding has been very rewarding, these cars are incredible. Even though I have rebuilt other engines, I would never have thought I could do a good job on a 911 motor w/o the education I've recieved from this board and the many friends I have made here. Special thanks has to go to Tom G. at Pelican who has made the parts buying process a breeze, they have all the good stuff there.

Now to get on a track!

He's probably already done it.

Looks great. Much more productive than me I was washing what little grease there was on my new 3.6. And the totothbrush for the flywheel seal. Good idea, but my wife is going to be pissed. I've already gone through 2 in the past couple weeks for non-dental purposes.

Perhaps Tyson needs more time at the beach, observing the native fauna...there should be enough California sun about to bleach those arm hairs...

Poor guy is actually working for a living, not much beach time. Oh well, one of these days he'll figure out the whole "living off the land" thing that the rest of us do here.

Seriously, on weekends he is either at a race track or very generously helping a friend wrench on car, etc. Before I had met Tyson, (at Cambria '02), he had moved here and got an apartment 1/2 block from me! How's that for a small world? (This is a metropolitan area of ~14 million souls). We've become friends and knowing him and Jack has been great. This board is amazing; first and only on-line community I've been on.
