Ignition keys and security

When viewing --#xjoeqtix--ran out of coffee, it got me thinking,
here in Australia in the last few years ,break ins and security to house holds
is really bad ,especially in expensive homes with expensive cars .
It happens when car keys are left on hall stands , kitchen bench tops , etc, etc,
thieves steal the keys and exit the garage in seconds,and a lot of these cars are never
recovered,.
I for one never leave my 911 keys, or other cars exposed,they are kept hidden until i need to use that particular car. It is really good practice to do this.
And i guess it is the same in US.

A "hidden" ignition or starter kill switch will slow them down.

There was a thread a while back about anti theft devices.

I have a switch that was for something else, but now powers my electric battery contactor. The only problem is that sometime I forget about the switch too and it takes me a while to get the car going.

If an intruder makes it to where I keep my keys they will meet my Mossberg too.

I guess it depends on where you live though. I live one town over from Kennesaw, GA. Kennesaw passed a law back in the '80s that if you want to buy a home in the city limits you must show proof of ownership of a firearm. And before anyone starts arguing that it's not legal -- it is because they allow exceptions. Sometimes people miss the point. The point is that if you're a criminal and if there is a chance that you'll be met with the wrong end of a barrel in every home in town, you'll think twice and most likely ease on down the road. It's basic deterrence - you don't have to be the most secure, just not the easiest target. And the law seems to have done it's intended job as Kennesaw has statically very low break-ins/home invasions.

The stick shift pic cracked me up because it is so true. There was a local news story recently where a kid tried to steal a manual BMW from a parking lot. He kept stalling the car. The cops arrested him before he even got out of the parking lot. It was all caught on security video. I laughed so hard I cried.
