Watch out for this guy (RIPOFF)

I hate doing this especially when someone puts me in this position.

I recently purchased a 944 Turbo from a Pelican Parts long-time lister, Don Adkins of Denver Colorado (uses VIPRKLR as a screen name on this BBS) and unfortunately, he has skipped town with the car and he will not return my phone calls or e-mails. I purchased the car from him a month ago but one hassle after another, with delays and false statements to me, his mechanic and his friends has resulted in me losing out on some hard earned cash. Apparently he also owns a 911 turbo so he may post to this section as well ... beware!
If anyone knows of this individual and is in contact with him, I request your help in seeing this matter through. I seek only the return of my funds but alas, I feel that I have been taken. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying VIPRKLR has taken your money? . . or are you saying you spent money inspecting a 951, and then, VIPRKLR did not sell it to you?

Wasn't VIPRKLR the guy who had an early 911 stolen from outside a cinema?

Hope it works out, dude.

Yes, Don is the one whos early car was stolen. He hasn't visited this forum for a very long time. I tried to contact him a few months back and none of my old e-mail addresses or numbers worked. If I remember correctly he was having a lot of personal financial problems and was always buying and selling Porsches.
Let us know if you find him.

"If I remember correctly he was having a lot of personal financial problems"

This doesn't sound good. I'm guessing if hes run off with your money you've contacted the police?

the 2 in his email address makes me a little skeptical. I am thinking he already had changed it once before for one reason or the other.

I hope you get this sorted out and it all is a big misunderstanding.

Thanks.
AMC - your 15 posts (to date) contain just about nothing but gripes; and the gripes are against 2 different sellers.

I can't help but to conclude the following:

1) you are the common link in all your problems.

2) you want this board to be your gestapo.

AMC,

As Island asks, how much $ did he take? Did you pay him full purchase price or a deposit, or did you just pay to have the car inspected? Can't feel sorry for you if you don't come clean to the board. You started this thread.

Hello,

Thanks to all who have offered assistance and those who were able to contact the gentleman for me. Apparently Rennlist and the Pelican Parts BBS does indeed have an effect on situations such as this.
He has indeed contacted me but I now hear that the car was "damaged" while at his mechanics and he took the car to have it "repaired". This AFTER I had paid for the car, yet no word came from him. I am trying to seek a return of my money but only time will tell.
It seems he is trying to make me the bad person in all of this, but with hope and faith, perhaps he will honor my request. We'll see.
If he does make amends I will post that he has done so. Thanks again for the support and advice!

Thanks for all the help!

I have been contacted by the owner of the car and he has agreed to refund my money ... I'll post this once the funds actually arrive. This has been a difficult and confusing situation for me and I hope that it will end well for both of us.

Well, obviously this board is pretty powerful, as this whole situation unfolded in a matter of 24 hours and resolution is a comin'

I think we all should have a group hug.

It's possible that AMC didn't learn of the accident at the mechanics until the car was already sold. That would put him in a bit of a spot. He could have heard all kinds of promises that it would be fixed ASAP and in which case it would be as nothing happened. But selling an undislosed repair(i.e. a quick inch of bondo or a replaced door lock?) would be shady, and not customary of the majority of the Pcar crowd.
It was noble of him to do the right thing and you should thank him for that and be done with it. There are a lot of people acting worse then that out there. Mistakes happen, good people disclose and correct them.

As Jack has already said, this is the second recent use of the BBS in that last 10 days or so to attack a third party, both I beleive, unjustifiably. I think there should be a group "let's take a beep breath and think about this" rather than a hug, not that there is anything wrong with a group hug of course! At least this one didn't involve Ebay, I think.

I recently shipped a part to Axeman. Our shipping dept. forgot part of the address and it was returned to me so I had to reship it. It took weeks to reach him. I had NIGHTMARES about a thread like this. Lucky for me he is a cool guy.

Takes two to tango.

If nothing else, this type of thread certainly puts us all on our toes if we want to dance with a fellow pelican.

That's a good thing I'd reckon.

I think it's pretty easy to see who "cries wolf" on transactions and makes them public. You learn to ignore people who cry at the smallest issue.

I don't really think AMCPILOT is or was "crying wolf". I sold my 951 a few months ago and he was one of the individuals who came to look at it. He is very thorough and seemed to be a good buyer...always returning calls and e-mails promptly as well as showing up right on time, even though he drove several hundred miles to look at my car. He's also an extremely nice guy and helped me with a few issues I was having with my 911. We struck a deal when I had to back out. I backed out AFTER we struck a deal, but before any money exchanged hands and it was my fault. I think if AMC was going to "cry wolf" all the time he would have posted about me as well, but he didn't. I think he was having trouble getting a difficult situation resolved and just wanted some help. Just my .02.

-Jeff
