Calspeed and Wevo
Calspeed,
Hows the two working together? :D I am figuring that you have picked up the car from Rob by now. Brad |
Hello,
Oh my gosh...! This is certainly the best upgrade that I made on my Porsche. This thing goes into second without even thinking. And then back into third with a straight push up. It is pretty much impossible to make a misshift. Otherwise this unit is very expensive but certianly worth all the money I spent. So here I am at a stoplight in SF at 1130pm and a kid pulls up to me in a pumped up Honda Civic. After a look or two the light turns green and we go! I take him off the line and WEVO shift it into second at 6800. After I shift it into 3rd the race is over. This guys car was quick but not quick enough. At the next light he asked me, "You running stock?" I told him no and asked what he had. He mentioned something about a GSX motor. Not sure what that means. The shifter certainly helped me get my shifts down fast and precise. Calspeed:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/P1010552.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/P1010555.JPG |
man, I miss SanFran...

What does a Wevo installation run, if you don't mind my asking?
Adam |
The WEVO unit is about $500 and it includes the new bushings. It should take about 3 -4 hours to install.

Happy days!!!
|
The perspective in that last pic makes the little girl look like a doll. Nice story by the way. I'm assuming he was talking about swapping an integra gsr motor into his honda. Reasonably common practice for a civic with a swap.
|
Calspeed, can you change the shift knob on that model? I love the Wevo shifter, but I don't like the aluminum knob (with the thought of it being scalding hot in the summer).
|
Wevo makes an adapter that allows you to use either the stock knob or Momo knob.
|
Looks like an upgrade I may do is well....thanks for the feedback.
I never thought I'd live to here someone say they are racing Honda Civics with their 911. :p |
"scalding hot in the summer"
WHAT!!! In the bay area? C'mon. LOL! |
Okay... now I know what you guys mena by the aluminum knob getting too hot to shift. I took the 911 to Reno this past weekend and left it open in the sun of the Peppermill Casino parking lot.
A few hours later I was unable to rest my hand on the knob for more then a few seconds. It was super hot! maybe I will throw a towel over it when it is parked in the sun. Anyway... the WEVO is still working well. I am so much more used to it now that I am not sure if I could go back to stock. I look forward to tracking the Cab with the short shift next year. Michael |
Soo...what is the better upgrade?
1.) Wevo shifter ($500?) 2.) Seine Systems gated shiftkit + Wevo shift coupler ($142 + $195) Does the Wevo shifter kit have the spring loaded gated feel? |
To help save some keystrokes, here are a couple of recent threads on the subject:

Moazam,
The Wevo shifter does have the spring loaded feel in the lever, but it does not have the gated and latched feel of the product from Seinesystems. Sherwood and I fundamentally disagree about the value of a latched gate on the shifter handpiece - these two different products represent conflicting ideas of a correct solution. Both solutions have their supporters and critics. You will find a good deal of discussion about both products on the forum. An opportunity to drive a car equipped with either solution would also be extremely valuable. You might also want to consider the Rennshift product from James Adams. Regards Hayden Burvill |

I have the WEVO shifter and love it. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. It would be very difficult to make a wrong shift with it.

I'm also a believer in the Wevo shifter. We put it in our '86 cab a few weeks back, and I can't even imagine driving without it now. I'm going to try it out on the track this weekend for the first time. I imagine that it will a) ensure that I don't ever misshift from 3rd to 2nd when trying for 4th due to the nice spring centering on the 3rd/4th plane and b) allow me to make faster, more positive shifts.
I don't have experience with any of the other products mentioned, but I can attest to the quality and value of the Wevo kit. BTW - I also have the wevo coupler backing up the shifter. Hey Calspeed - are you only claiming "2nd Baddest Cab in the Bay Area" because of the presence of my '86 Cab in Marin?? :) |
I like the wevo shifter, but the price is a little steep. I want to try out the rennshifter that I've seen mentioned, it sounds pretty decent too. I do believe that you get what you pay for, but I think the wevo may be more than I need. And the rennshifter isn't exactly cheap either.
I got to row a full wevo 915 setup (shifter and internal gate thingy) standing still, and it felt amazing. But that will have to wait until I rebuild my gearbox. I wonder how compatable the internal wevo gate is with other short shifters? I would love to drive a wevo and rennshift, if anybody has them and is willing... :D Dan :) |
