Thank you Discount Tire
Thanks Discount for going all the way to find what may be two of the last 245x45x16 tires in the states. They had Bridgestone R11's shipped in from a warehouse at no charge. Now going ahead and getting them to bring in a pair of 205's to match for the rears. Kinda miss my Yoko's but happy to land almost anything these days in that size.

Toyo Proxes T1R are available in 245-45-16 from several USA tire suppliers.
They're relatively low cost, as well.

+1 for Discount Tire
Customer courtesy and service is unmatched at Discount Tire stores. My first experience with them was in AZ where they are based and I was delighted when they opened stores in the GA market. They enthusiastically offer courtesy (and prompt) tire pressure checks and even flat (or slow leak) tire repair at NO CHARGE! Tire dismount, proper repair and re-balance as a customer courtesy.....whodathunkit!?!
They also have great prices on their tires and wheels......what a concept. I am not affiliated but am a fan of their customer oriented business ethic. _ |

I have bought 2 sets of tires from them and was amazed. You research on their website and the inventory of the local store is right there in the quote. You make a reservation and show up and the service is amazing. They don't try to up sell you.
The equipment and people are top notch. I have been through a lot of tire dealers in my life and I am amazed at Americas/Discount. I HAVE NO CONNECTION TO THEM OTHER THAN BEING A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER. As mentioned pressure checks are free as are flat repairs.

Me three, free air checks, balance, flat fix. Customer Service is exceptional.
But... If you tires are borderline, forget it, it is time for a new :-/ I take all my cars there and always recommend them to friends and family.

I personally will never go back to them. Once ordered a set of tires from their website as they were running a sale. Called and made an appointment at the local store for the install and was quoted $16 a corner to mount/balance. Got there at the appointed time and went to pay to have them mounted and they asked for $230. I stopped and said I wasn't buying any tires - they were only mounting tires I bought from DiscountTire.com and I told them who quoted me $16 a tire. They turned around and asked the guy (apparently a manager or supervisor) and he said with a straight face - "$16 a corner is to take the old ones off. If you want us to mount new ones then it will be a total of $57.50 a corner" I told them to pound sand if that was their position.
3 or 4 years passed and they made a lot of noise about new management etc. so I am guessing that they pissed a lot of other people off. Again I needed new tires and the local store was running a promotion and I thought I would give them another try. Went in asked for a set of Bridgestone's and they told me they had to order them. Wanted to charge me $15 a tire to deliver them to the store. I told them I would pass and started to walk out as they were no longer price competitive. They dropped the delivery charge to $8 total but I had to pay a 10% deposit as they were being ordered. I said ok. Went and had the tires put on and of course they gave me all these bogus safety issues that needed to be taken care of immediately (I do all my own work... well except for tires so I know the condition of my car). I declined everything and went to go pick up my car. The total for the tires plus mount/balance was around $580 - 10% (taxes included) so I should of owed about $525. I go to pay and he tells me I owe $690. I politely told him I did not authorize any other work to my car and that I refused to pay any additional charges. At that point he informed me that was the cost for the tires only. We went back and forth a few times and they would not budge. At this point it occurred to me I had the original quote and receipt for payment in my glove box so I went and got it. I handed that to him and told him to either honor what they committed themselves to or take the new tires off and reinstall my old ones and I would be on my way. Of course their showroom was somewhat full at this point. He came back with "I will do you this favor once and give it to for the price on the paper" I was rather loud when I came back with - "You are not doing me any favors, you are simply honoring the quote you gave me and I had already paid a deposit on, anything else is nothing short of dishonest and crooked" So to that end I will never spend another dime with that company. If they become the last installer in town I will go buy the equipment I need before I step foot back in that place.

D tires is like a new tire store every time I visit.
Always new young employees in the back. Seems to be a lot of of labor turnover but the garage is still kept very clean. They stand up behind there mistakes and I have seen a few. Basic issues like Rims damaged and tires not balanced correctly. They do like to move their managers around frequently so sometimes getting a damaged rim repaired can get lost with the shuffle of managers. Lately I mail order tires, and drive an extra 5 minutes to a race shop of SCCA racers that do my mount balance work. Not for price more for peace of mind. Its only $16 a wheel and the same guy works on my stuff every time. He also happens to be a 40 year old road racer with a few years more experience than a first time tire jockey. I've always had better tire serivce at mom and pop places that work more on quality than quantity. |

I've had inadequate service from Discount tires, and so recently tried several Big-O Tires in Colorado. What a difference! Best prices for tires and batteries, great service, very clean everywhere. Road force wheel balance equipment(and staff who know how to work it!)
I guess each of these type of businesses creates its own reputation. If you find a good one, stick with it - its nice when they also remember your name and cars!

I went to America’s Tire (Discount Tire) to repair a leaking tire on a car that still had the original tires on it. I pointed out to them that the leaker was an original and hadn’t been purchased at their store.
They fixed it free anyway, saying that as a customer (I had bought my P car tires there), the tires on every car I own fell under their service policy. I’ve since purchased tires for all three of my cars through them. |

I've bought tires on Tire Rack and had them installed at multiple Discount Tires with no problems, for $80 or less (less if they're not dismounting and disposing of other tires).
Especially since there is a Tire Rack warehouse within driving distance now and I avoid the ~$80 in shipping, buying at Tire Rack, picking them up, and using Discount Tire for install is the way to go. I have found Discount's selection to be just slightly less comprehensive than TR (especially for stickier/ultra high performance summer--see this thread for the low availability of RE-11s from DT, but higher availability from TR), but I've always been treated well. They even rounded off a lug on my car once and paid for a neighboring shop to take it out, then gave me a new lug gratis. When possible, I just bring loose wheels and tires to avoid their interaction with my car ![]()
