Is there anything written/stamped on that can?
Honestly can't see anything in the pic but wires and what look to be loom guides(?) for 2-4, but a 66/67 owner might recognize that.

There is something stamped on the canister but the PO spray painted all of the wires and relays black - so I can't really make anything out. Removing the black has been such a chore that I am trying to ID anything I can and just label it and be done....The black paint also makes it almost impossible to photo anything well.

Is a loom guide a rubber plug that wires go into? Square shaped? you can best see what I am asking about under "4"- -

Rectangular plugs are through dash connectors for signals, lights, ignition etc. the dash area devices/switches plug into them. In the schematic they are illustrated by 3 main areas of dashed lines.
The round one is the turn signal relay.

Marilyn,

This is actually a great idea. Google your question and then use Google image search to locate photos on other Pelican threads. For instance, I searched for 1966 Porsche turn signal relay, and found photos of the fuse box and wiring. Try this thread, it will probably help you ID a lot of your wires:
1966 high beams turn off the lights

If you haven't run across him yet, this thread will introduce you to Grady Clay. Grady is a legend around here, unfortunately he passed away about 3 years ago.

Mark

That IS a great idea. helps to have an idea for sure.
How about these two red wires together (arrow) running along with the speedo cable (circled). One of them is 7 V and seems to actuate the tach gauge BUT the tach is very jumpy.....

Does anyone know if there is a special reason for 2 separate ground wires to be spliced together a few inches off of the chassis ground (aft of the fuse box) in a 912 1966 - and then made into one wire? one is brown with white stripe (not factory trace) and one is regular brown - then once they are combined they have painted the wire brown with silver trace???????? it headed to the gauges from there where it was disconnected.....any thoughts?
thanks

Queen,

Do you have a stereo in the car? That red wire doesn't appear like anything factory.
